How to Open and Navigate the Entity Texture Features Config Screen
Entity Texture Features (ETF) is configured entirely through its own settings screen, which you reach from the resource pack selection menu rather than through any in-game crafting or item.
Where the Settings Button Appears
ETF adds a Settings button to the resource pack menu. Its placement is controlled by the Settings button location option, whose tooltip explains that it decides where the ETF settings button shows up in that menu, or turns it off completely. The button's own tooltip describes its job plainly: it opens the Entity Features config screen. If you have hidden the button, restore it through that location option.
Getting Around the Config Screen
Hovering your mouse over any button brings up a help tooltip, so you can identify a control before clicking it. Some screens have nothing to show: you may see No settings available. Two variants of that message explain why — one notes that the Entity Model Features mod is required for OptiFine-format custom entity models, and the other notes that the Entity Sound Features mod is required for varied entity sounds.
The Main Setting Groups
The config is organised into sections, including Entity Features mod settings, Random / Custom mobs settings, Player skin settings, Transparent skin settings, Emissive texture settings, Special case emissive settings, and Mod conflicts / warnings.
- Enable OptiFine random mobs turns on randomized entity textures and works with resource packs, allowing texture customization in the OptiFine format.
- Emissive entity textures enables emissive entity textures from packs using that same format.
- Enchanted entity textures adds enchanted overlays, working like emissives but keyed to the "_enchant" suffix.
- Blinking mob textures lets mobs blink, provided their texture includes a closed-eye file and optionally a half-closed one.
- Texture update frequency decides how often mob textures refresh for things like health and age, from never through slow, fast, and instant.
- Debug logging mode writes ETF data about a right-clicked entity to the log file or in-game chat when enabled.
Compatibility Options
A desc line explains that some options exist for backwards compatibility with OptiFine: certain ones restrict features because OptiFine does, and others permit unusual behaviours for the same reason. Examples include Limit rule number gaps, Allow random suffix number skipping, and Prevent base texture overrides, which stops ETF loading overrides for a base texture found in the optifine/etf directories. Allow broken texture paths permits characters normally prohibited in texture paths, such as spaces and capitals, and is off by default.
Warnings and Conflicts
The Mod conflicts / warnings section reports detected problems. Some warnings switch off conflicting ETF settings unless you ignore them, and the Ignore / hide config warnings option, when enabled, makes ETF stop hiding warnings and stop disabling features automatically for compatibility. If the config file is corrupt or unreadable, a warning states that defaults are being used.
