Samurai Dynasty Demons: The Four Yokai and Demon Slayer

guide

Samurai Dynasty adds four demons that ordinary weapons cannot hurt. This guide covers each one and the enchantment that makes them killable.

Ordinary weapons do not work

All four of the mod's demons share one rule: they can only be harmed by a special enchantment. Turning up with the best sword you own and no preparation accomplishes nothing, which makes this the one hard gate in the mod.

Demon Slayer

The enchantment is applied at an enchanting table at level 30, and it is not compatible with Smite or Bane of Arthropods. That is a real cost — a weapon dedicated to demons gives up the vanilla anti-undead and anti-arthropod lines, so most players will want a second blade rather than converting their main one.

The four demons

  • Kitsune — overworld. Approach too closely and it fires a projectile called a will-o'-the-wisp.
  • Enenra — caves. Its dark colouring makes it genuinely hard to see underground, which is a more dangerous property than any of its stats.
  • Akaname — the Nether. Attacks with a long tongue that slows whoever it hits.
  • Oni — the Nether. Very slow, but deals heavy damage.

The pairing of Akaname and Oni in the same dimension is worth planning for: one slows you and the other hits hard, and being slowed near an Oni is exactly the situation its damage is designed for.

Reading their behaviour

Three of the four are described as wandering to scare humans rather than to hunt them, and only the Enenra is described as hunting. That distinction matters underground, where the one demon that is actively looking for you is also the one you cannot easily see.

Where they fit

The mod ships 166 pages across 95 items and 71 blocks, and the demons are the closest thing it has to a boss tier. There is no dedicated structure for them — they generate in their dimensions rather than inside a building, so meeting one is a matter of travel rather than of finding a location.

Version note for gear

Remember the mod's version split when preparing: on 1.21.1 the equipment lives in 153 smithing transform recipes with 91 in a crafting grid, while on 1.20.1 it is 180 crafting recipes and only 34 smithing. Where you enchant is the same on both, but where you make the blade is not.
