Samurai Dynasty: Smithing, Shrines and a Major Version Split
Samurai Dynasty adds Japanese-themed weapons, armour and structures. This guide covers its content and a version difference large enough to change how you play it.
The two builds are built differently
This is the headline, and it is unusual:
- Smithing Transform — 153 recipes on 1.21.1, but only 34 on 1.20.1
- Crafting — 91 recipes on 1.21.1, against 180 on 1.20.1
The mod moved its gear from the crafting grid to the smithing table. The older build makes things; the newer build upgrades them. A tutorial written for 1.20.1 will send you to a bench that no longer holds most of the recipes.
Three small categories exist only on 1.20.1 — Smelting at 4 recipes, and single Mixing and Splashing entries that hook into Create — while Blasting drops from 5 to 1.
Stonecutting is the one stable category, at 23 recipes on 1.21.1 and 22 on 1.20.1.
Three structures, and the spread is severe
- Torii — spacing 180, separation 80
- Shrine — spacing 60, separation 50
- Spirit Stone Boulder — spacing 3, separation 1
A spacing of 180 puts the Torii among the rarest structures on this wiki — for comparison, most mods reserve 40 to 60 for their headline build. Meanwhile the Spirit Stone Boulder at 3 and 1 is effectively continuous terrain.
There is nothing in between except the Shrine. This mod has no middle tier: you either cannot avoid a structure or you may never see it.
Scale
166 pages across 95 items and 71 blocks, plus a 23-entry in-game guidebook.
Where to start on each version
On 1.21.1, get to a smithing table early — 153 of the mod's recipes are there and only 91 are in a crafting grid. On 1.20.1, the reverse: crafting carries 180 recipes and smithing only 34.
Versions
0.1.6 on NeoForge for 1.21.1, 0.0.51 on Forge for 1.20.1.
Blocks and items are close to even
95 items against 71 blocks across 166 pages. The items are the weapons and armour the mod is known for; the blocks cover shrine furniture and the building palette that the 23 stonecutting recipes convert between.
No middle ground on exploration
Worth restating because it shapes how the mod feels in play: with the Torii at a spacing of 180 and the Spirit Stone Boulder at 3, there is nothing between "everywhere" and "almost nowhere" except the Shrine at 60. Most mods spread their structures across four or five tiers; this one uses two ends and a single point in the middle.
