Samurai Dynasty Ores: Where Each Metal and Gem Generates

guide

This guide covers the materials Samurai Dynasty adds, where they generate, and how the refined metals are made.

Five ores share one band

Aquamarine, Jade, Onyx, Ruby and Silver all generate in the overworld from Y=-64 up to Y=30, and all five are mined with an iron pickaxe.

That is unusually tidy. One pickaxe tier and one depth range covers every ore in the mod, so there is no reason to plan separate trips — a single branch mine anywhere below Y=30 can produce all five.

Steel is made, not mined

Steel comes from smelting iron ingots in a blast furnace, not from an ore. That makes it the mod's first real processing step and the gateway to everything above it.

Two ingots are smithed from steel

  • Amethyst Ingot — steel combined with amethyst at a smithing table
  • Quartz Ingot — steel combined with quartz at a smithing table

Both use vanilla materials you already have, so once steel exists neither requires a new expedition. The smithing table appearing here is consistent with the mod's shape on 1.21.1, where 153 of its recipes are smithing transforms.

Silver has a smelting step

Raw silver is smelted in a furnace, following the ordinary vanilla pattern rather than needing the blast furnace that steel does.

What the materials are for

Every blade calls for a dedicated handle alongside its metal, so a weapon is never just the ore it is named after. That is the detail most likely to stall a first attempt at crafting — the ore is not the missing piece, the handle is.

The weapon families

Each weapon type behaves differently rather than simply scaling:

  • Katana — the mod's main weapon
  • Kama — a sickle-like blade with higher attack speed
  • Sai — also built around attack speed
  • Kunai — both melee and ranged, with higher attack speed
  • Naginata — extended reach, behaving like a spear
  • Nagamaki — also spear-like with extended reach, and crafted from a Katana
  • Shuriken — the mod's other ranged option

Nagamaki being made from a Katana is the one upgrade path in the list; everything else is built from materials directly.

Ranged options are for opening a fight

The mod frames the shuriken and kunai as stealth openers rather than primary weapons — useful before a fight rather than during one.
