Managing Homes and Server Warps with Essential Commands

guide

Essential Commands handles the places you return to often — your own saved homes and the server's shared warps — through chat commands and its interface rather than any crafting recipe.

Saving and Naming Homes

A home is a personal location you store under a name you choose. When you try to save one, the mod checks two things first. If you already have a home under that exact name, you are asked whether you want to replace it. If you have hit your allowed total, the game tells you the home limit has been reached and refuses. The limit is a number the server decides, so it can differ from one server to another.

Once a home exists, you can move it. Relocating a home to where you are standing now is confirmed with a message saying the home has been moved to your current location.

Deleting and Listing Homes

Removing a home is confirmed with a message naming the home that was deleted. If the deletion fails, you get an error instead, which usually means the name did not match anything you own.

To see what you have, run the home list. It begins with a line announcing that your current homes follow, then shows them. If nothing comes back, no locations were found.

Teleporting to a Home

Teleporting works by name. If the name you give does not match any of your homes, you are told no home with that name could be found. If you leave the name out and you have more than one home, the mod cannot guess and asks you to specify which one you want.

Server Warps

Warps are locations the server publishes for everyone. Listing them produces a line introducing the available server warps, followed by the names.

Teleporting to a warp can be blocked. Some warps require an explicit permission, and without it you are told you lack permission for that warp. A misspelled or unknown name returns a message saying no warp with that name could be found.

Deleting a warp is confirmed by name. A failed deletion returns an error and hints that the spelling may be wrong. Creating a warp fails if a warp with that name already exists.

Teleport Limits and Interruptions

Queued teleports do not always complete instantly. You may see a countdown message telling you that you will arrive at your destination after a set number of seconds, followed by a confirmation once you land.

A queued teleport can be cut short. Taking damage interrupts it, and so does moving. Starting a second teleport while one is already waiting cancels the first, and the message explains that a new teleport replaced it.

Some destinations are restricted outright. If interdimensional travel is switched off, the attempt fails and the reason is given. Commands can also be rate-limited: when one is on cooldown, you are told how many seconds remain.

Permissions

Not every action is open to every player. Warps can demand an explicit permission, and nicknames have their own permission check — a player without it is told their permissions are insufficient. Nicknames are also capped in length, and going past the maximum is reported with both the length you supplied and the limit.
