Etcetera Recipes: What the Crafting List Covers

guide

This guide covers how Etcetera's short recipe list is distributed and what its shape tells you about using the mod.

Eighty-nine recipes, and 79 are crafting

On 1.21.1 the split is 79 crafting, 5 stonecutting, 3 smelting and 2 blasting. On 1.20.1 it is the same except crafting drops to 66.

Nine tenths of the mod in a single vanilla category is about as concentrated as a recipe list gets. Practically, that means one place to look: if something exists in Etcetera, a crafting grid makes it.

Stonecutting barely matters here

Five recipes against 35 blocks is a very low ratio. Compare that with a decoration mod, where stonecutting often outnumbers crafting — the blocks in Etcetera are not a variant palette, they are individual additions that happen to be placed rather than carried.

If you are looking for a stone variant and cannot find it, the answer is that this mod does not add one.

The furnace is nearly unused

Three smelting recipes and two blasting recipes are the entire furnace surface. In a mod of 102 pages that is negligible, and it confirms there is no ore-and-refine loop here.

Items are the point

67 items against 35 blocks. The mod's centre of gravity is equipment and utilities. That also explains the low stonecutting count — the block list exists to support the items rather than to furnish a build.

Version difference is a single category

Only crafting differs: 79 recipes on 1.21.1, 66 on 1.20.1. Stonecutting, smelting and blasting are identical. Following a 1.20.1 guide on the newer build is safe — you simply have thirteen more options than it mentions.

No structures, no gating

The mod generates no worldgen structures, so nothing waits behind exploration and no recipe is locked. Everything in the list is available from the first crafting table given the right materials.

How to approach it

Read the crafting list once and pick what solves a problem you already have. A mod with no machines and no progression is not something to work through — it is something to consult.
