Explosive Enhancement Config Guide: Blast Wave, Mushroom Cloud, Shockwave, Sparks and Vanilla Explosion Toggles

guide

Explosive Enhancement Config is the settings screen where you turn individual explosion effects on or off and adjust how they look. Everything here is handled through the mod's interface and its hotkeys, so there is nothing to craft and no items to place. Open the config, then work through the groups and toggles described below.

Particle Visibility First

Before changing anything else, check the notice shown at the top of the config. The mod relies on particles, so lowering your particle visibility setting can make the enhanced explosion effect disappear. The screen also reports your current particle visibility value and tells you which value is recommended, so you can match it.

Blast Wave and Shockwave

The Blast Wave Particle option controls a wide orange ring that sits horizontally and flat against the ground. A related option covers a wide orange ring that stands vertically instead.

Shockwave Particle covers a vertical ring with a slight blue tint, comparable to the fireball particle.

Mushroom Cloud, Sparks and Default Particles

Mushroom Cloud Particles controls smoke arranged in a mushroom shape.

The sparks options include a size control and an opacity control, letting you make the sparks particle bigger or smaller and more or less see-through.

Default Explosion Particles toggles the standard Minecraft explosion particles, so you can keep or remove the original look alongside the enhanced effects.

Underwater Explosions

The Underwater Explosions group holds options for blasts that happen below the surface. The group's main toggle decides whether a special underwater effect is used at all. When it is off, an underwater explosion looks exactly like whatever you configured above this option. When it is on, the explosion uses the settings inside the underwater group instead.

Inside that group you will find the Underwater Blast Wave Particle, described as a large blue-ish horizontal ring similar to the blast wave particle, plus an option for little bubbles that pop after a while. That bubble option carries a warning that too many bubbles may cause lag.

Dynamic Explosions

The Dynamic Explosions group controls sizing. Dynamic Explosion Sizing changes an explosion's size according to its power, and Dynamic Underwater Explosion Sizing does the same for underwater blasts.

Extra Power Overrides lets you add or remove extra power based on an explosion's size, with separate entries for Big Explosions Extra Power and Small Explosions Extra Power.

Attempt Better Small Explosions lowers the y coordinate of an explosion slightly when its power equals 1, such as a wither skull or ghast fireball, for a sometimes better looking result. The Small Explosions Y Offset value sets that offset.

Single Player Truly Dynamic Explosions keeps perfect power-based scaling working in single player worlds. It has no effect on multiplayer servers. On multiplayer, the config explains that the data needed for exact scaling is no longer sent to the client, so explosions are instead scaled between big and small according to how many vanilla particles would have appeared. Attempt Calculating Power From Knockback estimates rough power from the knockback applied to you, and it only works if you were actually knocked back.

Emissive, Always Show and Debug

Emissive Explosions and Emissive Underwater Explosions control whether normal and underwater explosions glow.

Always Show Particles makes explosion particles render from roughly twice the distance and at lower particle settings, so use it wisely.

A debug option adds extra console logs when needed, with a warning that it will spam the log.

Finally, the main toggle decides whether the mod is enabled at all. For any action that has a hotkey, use the corresponding hotkey and set it in the controls menu.
