How to Open the Explosive Enhancement Config, Enable the Mod, and Read the Particle Visibility Notice
The Explosive Enhancement Config is the screen where every option for this mod lives, and opening it is the first step before anything else can be adjusted.
Opening the Config
The config screen is titled Explosive Enhancement Config. It is reached through the mod's interface rather than through any in-game item, and it is where all of the toggles and groups described below are found. Once inside, settings are organised into labelled groups, each with its own set of switches and tooltips.
Enabling the Mod
At the top level there is a master switch whose tooltip simply asks whether the mod should be active. Turn this on to let Explosive Enhancement take over explosion visuals; turn it off and explosions revert to their unmodified appearance. Nothing else in the config matters while this switch is off, so check it first if you see no change in game.
The Particle Visibility Notice
When you open the config, a notice appears warning that Explosive Enhancement relies on particles. It explains that if your particle visibility setting is lowered, the enhanced explosion effect may not appear at all. A second line reports your current particle visibility value and tells you which value is recommended. In short: the mod's effects are drawn as particles, so a reduced particle setting can hide them entirely. If explosions look plain, raise particle visibility before assuming the mod is broken.
What You Can Toggle
- Blast Wave Particle — produces a wide orange ring lying flat against the ground, plus a second large orange ring standing upright.
- Mushroom Cloud Particles — produces smoke shaped like a mushroom, along with striking white streaks thrown out by the blast.
- Default Explosion Particles — keeps the standard explosion particles you already know.
- Shockwave Particle — a vertical ring tinged with blue, resembling the fireball particle.
- Underwater Explosions — a group holding options that only apply beneath the surface. When its main switch is off, underwater blasts look exactly like the settings above it; when on, the options inside the group take over. These include an Underwater Blast Wave Particle (a broad blue-tinted horizontal ring) and small bubbles that pop after a delay. A warning notes that too many bubbles can cause lag.
- Dynamic Explosions — a group for scaling blast size. Dynamic Explosion Sizing and Dynamic Underwater Explosion Sizing resize effects according to an explosion's power. Extra Power Overrides adds or removes power based on size, with separate entries for big and small explosions. Attempt Better Small Explosions nudges the y coordinate down slightly for power-1 blasts such as wither skulls and ghast fireballs, using the Small Explosions Y Offset value. Single Player Truly Dynamic Explosions keeps accurate scaling in single-player worlds despite later game changes, and does nothing on multiplayer servers. Attempt Calculating Power From Knockback estimates power from knockback dealt to you, and only works if you were actually knocked back.
A message in this group explains that the data used for scaling is no longer sent to clients on multiplayer servers, so perfect scaling there is impossible; instead, size is guessed from how many default particles would have appeared. Enabling the single-player option still gives full accuracy in single-player.
Other Options
- Emissive Explosions and Emissive Underwater Explosions control whether those effects glow.
- Always Show Particles lets explosion particles render from roughly twice the distance and on lower particle settings.
- A debug logging switch adds extra console output, with a warning that it will flood the log.
Any hotkey mentioned by the mod is bound through the controls menu rather than being fixed in advance.
