High-Sensitivity Film Basics

Standard films require strong light to capture a usable image, but high-sensitivity films are formulated for dimmer conditions. These advanced consumables follow the same development path as their normal counterparts but demand rarer ingredients during crafting.

High-Sensitivity Black and White Film is made with a shaped recipe combining iron nuggets, two Bone Meal, two Iron Ingots, two Prismarine Crystals, and two Dried Kelp. The layout places the nuggets and ingots to form the film base, while the Bone Meal, crystals, and kelp act as the sensitizing emulsion.

High-Sensitivity Color Film mirrors that structure but swaps the metal base. Use gold nuggets instead of iron nuggets, two Lapis Lazuli in place of Bone Meal, and two Gold Ingots instead of Iron Ingots. The Prismarine Crystals and Dried Kelp remain the same, keeping the recipe shape identical to the black and white version.

Both high-sensitivity films are distinct items from their standard counterparts. You cannot substitute one for the other in crafting or development—each type must be processed separately.

Sequenced Assembly Overview

The Sequenced Assembly is the machine that converts raw film into developed film. It does not accept every item; it has exactly four recipes, each taking one film type as input and producing the corresponding developed film as output.

The four recipes are:

  • Black and White Film → Developed Black and White Film
  • High-Sensitivity Black and White Film → Developed Black and White Film
  • Color Film → Developed Color Film
  • High-Sensitivity Color Film → Developed Color Film

Note that both the standard and high-sensitivity versions of a film type yield the same developed product. The high-sensitivity film does not create a separate "high-sensitivity developed" item—it simply provides an alternative input path to the identical final result.

Practical Implications

Because high-sensitivity films develop into the same items as standard films, the choice between them comes down to capture conditions, not output differences. If you are shooting in low light or need faster response from the film, the high-sensitivity variants give you that capability without forcing you to change your development workflow.

The Sequenced Assembly does not care which film you feed it, as long as it matches one of the four accepted inputs. You can mix standard and high-sensitivity films in the same batch, processing them one after another, because the output is identical for both inputs of the same color type.

Crafting Considerations

The high-sensitivity recipes deliberately require more valuable components than their standard versions. Iron and gold ingots replace the cheaper base materials, and the addition of Prismarine Crystals and Dried Kelp appears in both high-sensitivity variants. This means you must gather materials from ocean monuments (for Prismarine) and dried kelp farms before you can craft them.

If you already have a stock of standard films, there is no processing advantage to switching to high-sensitivity versions—the developed output is the same. Reserve high-sensitivity films for situations where standard film would fail due to poor lighting, and keep your Sequenced Assembly ready to handle either type.

Final Workflow

To use high-sensitivity films effectively: 1. Craft the appropriate high-sensitivity film (black and white or color) using the shaped recipe. 2. Place the film in the Sequenced Assembly. 3. Run the assembly to produce the developed film. 4. Use the developed film as you would any standard developed film.

The system is simple: high-sensitivity films expand your capture options, while the Sequenced Assembly remains the single, universal development step for all four film types.
