Falling Leaves Settings Guide: Options, Locations, and How to Open the Config Screen
Falling Leaves is configured entirely through its own settings screen, where every option is grouped by what it affects. This guide covers how to reach that screen and what each setting controls.
Opening the Settings Screen
The mod's options are not accessed through crafting or an item. Open the settings screen from the mod list or config interface provided by your mod loader, then select Falling Leaves. Once inside, the options are organized into general behavior, spawn rates, seasonal multipliers, and per-block leaf settings.
General Behavior Options
These settings decide when and where leaves are allowed to appear.
- Leaf Life Span (in Ticks) sets how long spawned leaves remain. As the tooltip notes, 20 ticks are roughly one second.
- Drop leaves from player-placed blocks? controls whether leaves fall from blocks you placed yourself.
- Drop some leaves when hitting a block? makes leaves appear when a block is struck.
- Needed vertical space (in half-blocks) requires open space beneath a block before leaves can fall from it. Leaves only drop when enough room exists below.
- Windless Dimensions lists dimensions where wind does not apply. A separate wind option allows for stronger wind, since some wind is always present.
- Minimal Spawn Radius prevents leaves from spawning within a set distance around the player.
- Register Leaf Particles enables the /particle command in singleplayer. It can cause problems when hosting a LAN server if the client lacks the mod. Changing it requires a restart.
Spawn Rate Settings
These control how frequently each type of leaf appears.
- Leaf Life Span (in Ticks) also relates to how many leaves spawn over time.
- Cherry Petals Spawn Rate adjusts vanilla cherry petal spawning in factors of ten: 5 equals 50 (half rate), 10 equals 100 (original rate), and 20 equals 200 (double rate).
- Conifer Leaf Spawn Rate sets how many conifer leaves appear over time.
- Snowflake Spawn Rate sets how many snowflakes fall from snowy trees.
- Fall Spawn Rate Multiplier and Winter Spawn Rate Multiplier exist for Fabric Seasons and Serene Seasons.
- Decaying Leaf Spawn Rate Multiplier adjusts how often leaves that are about to decay appear.
- Decayed Leaf Max. Spawn Count limits how many leaves spawn when a leaf block decays into air. This only works in singleplayer.
Per-Block Leaf Settings
The Leaf Block Settings section lets you tune individual block types.
- Spawn Rate Multiplier controls output for that block. A value of 0 disables spawning, while 100 means the base spawn rate.
- Are these conifer leaves? marks the block as conifer.
- Drop some leaves when this block is hit or decays? enables leaves when that block is struck or decays.
Adding Extra Leaf Sources
Additional block states that drop leaves lets you specify other blocks that should produce leaves. Entries look like `minecraft:pink_wool` or `minecraft:bamboo[leaves=large]`. After turning this setting on, a restart is required.
A Note on Hotkeys
Some actions in the interface are bound to controls rather than buttons. If you prefer using a key for a given action, assign the corresponding hotkey in the controls menu. No default key is assumed here, so set whatever is comfortable for you.
