Tuning Falling Leaves Spawn Rates and Leaf Lifespan
Falling Leaves gives you direct control over how long leaves linger and how often they appear, covering standard leaves, cherry petals, conifer needles, and snowflakes. Every value below is adjusted through the mod's own interface, and each change takes effect as you apply it unless noted otherwise.
Leaf Lifespan
leafLifespan decides how many ticks a falling leaf stays visible before it disappears. The setting's tooltip notes that twenty ticks correspond to about one second, so a value of 100 keeps a leaf around for roughly five seconds. Raise it for slow, drifting falls; lower it for quick, snappy drops.
Spawn Rates
Three separate sliders govern how frequently different particle types appear over time:
- Spawn Rate Multiplier controls ordinary leaves. A value of 0 stops them entirely, while 100 represents the base rate. Numbers above 100 increase the count.
- cherrySpawnRate works differently from the others. It scales the vanilla cherry petal rate in multiples of ten: 5 gives you half the normal amount, 10 matches the original, and 20 doubles it.
- coniferLeafSpawnRate sets how many conifer leaves appear over time.
- snowflakeSpawnRate sets how many snowflakes drift down from snowy trees over time.
Placement and Space Rules
- dropFromPlayerPlacedBlocks determines whether blocks you placed yourself are allowed to shed leaves.
- leavesOnBlockHit makes a block release some leaves when you strike it.
- minimumFreeSpaceBelow defines the vertical clearance required, measured in half-blocks, before a block will drop anything. If the gap beneath is too small, nothing falls.
- startingSpawnRadius creates a no-spawn zone around you. Leaves stay out of that circle.
Wind and Dimensions
Wind is always present in some amount. The related option lets you increase its strength beyond the default. windlessDimensions lists dimensions where wind effects are switched off entirely.
Seasonal Multipliers
Two multipliers adjust output for season mods:
- fallSpawnRateFactor applies during autumn.
- winterSpawnRateFactor applies during winter.
These are intended for use alongside Fabric Seasons and Serene Seasons.
Decaying Leaves
- decaySpawnRateFactor changes how often leaves that are close to decaying are produced.
- maxDecayLeaves caps how many leaves appear when a leaf block decays into air. This one functions only in singleplayer.
Adding Custom Blocks
leafSpawners lets you register extra block states that should shed leaves. Entries follow the format shown in the tooltip, such as a plain block identifier or one with a state attached. Turning this on requires a restart before it takes effect.
Particle Registration
registerParticles enables the /particle command in singleplayer. Be aware it can cause problems when you host a LAN game through tools like Essential if other players lack the mod. Changing it also needs a restart.
Per-Block Overrides
leafsettings holds individual entries for each leaf block, and each entry exposes three controls:
- spawn rate factor — 0 disables spawning for that block, 100 keeps the base rate.
- is conifer — marks the block as conifer leaves.
- spawn breaking leaves — decides whether hitting or decaying that block releases leaves.
Applying Your Changes
Open the mod's interface and locate the setting you want. Adjust the value, then confirm. For leafSpawners and registerParticles, restart the game afterward. If you want a quick way to reach these screens, bind the corresponding hotkey in the controls menu.
