FallingTree Configuration Guide: Custom Log and Leaf Lists, Nether Wart, Mangrove Roots, Player Tags, and VeinMiner

guide

FallingTree decides what counts as a tree, how it comes apart, and who is allowed to trigger it, all through its configuration screen rather than any crafting recipe. The settings below cover block lists, special tree types, player restrictions, and a known conflict with VeinMiner.

Custom Log and Leaf Lists

The mod already recognises blocks carrying the log tag as trunks, but you can widen that set.

  • Additional logs: add extra blocks here to treat them as trunks. Anything already carrying the log tag is accepted regardless.
  • Log denylist: blocks listed here are never treated as trunks. This takes priority over the allow list, so a block on both lists is excluded.
  • Additional leaves: add extra blocks to treat as naturally decaying foliage. Blocks carrying the leaves tag are accepted already.
  • Leaf denylist: blocks here are never treated as decaying foliage, and this overrides the allow list.
  • Allowed leaves (needs breaking): a separate list for foliage that has to be broken by hand rather than decaying on its own.

Entries must be written in the form `mod_id:block_id` or `mod_id:item_id`. Anything else is rejected as invalid.

Nether Wart and Mangrove Roots

Two toggles extend tree cutting to blocks that are not ordinary wood.

  • Break nether tree warts: when enabled, nether wart blocks functioning as foliage come down together with the trunk.
  • Break mangrove roots: when enabled, mangrove roots are removed along with the trunk.

Player Tag Restrictions

Access to the mod can be limited to certain players.

  • Required player tags: list tags a player must carry to use the mod. Holding any single one of them is enough. Leaving the list empty removes the restriction entirely.

VeinMiner Compatibility

Running VeinMiner alongside FallingTree can produce conflicts. When both are detected, the mod warns that incompatibilities are possible and suggests running `/veinminer groups remove Wood` to separate their behaviour.

A few neighbouring options change how the block lists behave in practice.

  • Allow trunks with mixed log blocks: when true, a trunk may contain several different log types; when false, a trunk is treated as a single log type.
  • Adjacent blocks allowed: a list of blocks permitted beside the trunk. Leave it empty for no restriction.
  • Adjacent stop mode: decides the outcome when a disallowed neighbour appears. STOP_ALL cancels the whole cut; STOP_BRANCH ends only the current branch and continues elsewhere.
  • Search area radius: how far from the broken log the mod looks for the rest of the tree. A negative value behaves like an unlimited radius.
  • Maximum leaf distance from log: how far foliage may sit from the trunk during scanning.
  • Minimum leaves around required: how much foliage must surround the highest log before the mod treats the structure as a tree. This applies in INSTANTANEOUS mode.
  • Include persistent leaves in required count: when true, player-placed or sheared foliage counts toward that minimum.
  • Leaves breaking force radius: forces foliage within a radius of the highest log to break, even if another tree still supports it or a player placed it. Requires break_leaves to be active, and only applies in INSTANTANEOUS mode.

Activation and Tool Rules

  • Sneaking behaviour: choose whether sneaking disables the mod, enables it, or is ignored so the mod always runs.
  • Force tool usage: when true, only a valid tool lets you cut. The tool allow list can be extended beyond axe-tagged items, and a denylist overrides it.
  • Creative mode: cutting can be permitted in creative, and loot drops from creative cutting can be switched off.
  • Notifications: choose CHAT, ACTION_BAR, or NONE for how the mod tells you what happened.

Enchantments

  • Register Chopper enchantment: enables a general Chopper enchantment that lets an enchanted tool fell a tree using the default breaking mode.
  • Register Specific Chopper enchantment: registers several variants, each tied to one breaking mode — instantaneous, fall block, fall all block, fall item, and shift down.
  • Enchantments can be hidden from discovery and trading, and can be made mandatory before the mod activates.

Both enchantment registration options require a restart, and once active the mod must be present on clients.
