FallingTree Mod Guide: Activation, Sneak Behavior, and Notifications
FallingTree changes how you harvest wood by letting a single cut bring down far more than one block, and this guide covers how to turn it on or off, how sneaking interacts with it, and how it tells you what it's doing.
Turning the Mod On and Off
The mod can be switched between active and inactive states, and it confirms the change with a notification reading either FallingTree enabled or FallingTree disabled. There is no crafting step involved — you operate it through its interface and the hotkey you assign to it.
To toggle it, use the corresponding hotkey (set it in the controls menu). Once enabled, the mod watches your chopping and decides whether a tree qualifies.
Sneak Behavior
Sneaking is one of the main ways you control when the mod applies. A setting called Sneak Behavior defines what sneaking does, and it has three possible values:
- SNEAK_DISABLE — holding sneak turns the mod off, so you cut normally.
- SNEAK_ENABLE — holding sneak turns the mod on, so it only activates while you sneak.
- IGNORE — sneaking has no effect and the mod stays active regardless.
Pick whichever matches how you like to play: some players prefer the mod always running and sneak to opt out, others prefer the opposite.
Notifications
The mod can tell you what it's doing through a notification setting with three options:
- CHAT — messages appear in the chat.
- ACTION_BAR — messages appear on the action bar above your hotbar.
- NONE — nothing is shown.
These notifications are how you learn why a tree wasn't cut. The messages you may see include:
- tree too big — the tree exceeded the scan limit and won't be examined further.
- break tree too small — there weren't enough logs for the mod to treat it as a tree.
- break tree too big — the tree can't be felled in a single hit.
- prevented break tool — your tool is nearly worn out and needs repair or replacement.
- search aborted — detection stopped, often because a block not on the allowed adjacent list was found.
- force tool usage — tool use is required, but what you held wasn't valid.
- veinminer incompatibility — VeinMiner is present, which may conflict; removing Wood from its groups is suggested.
Other Ways the Mod Activates
Beyond the toggle and sneak behavior, activation can depend on what you're holding. The mod can be configured to work with any item, including an empty hand, while a deny list can still restrict certain tools. You can also require a valid tool, in which case using something invalid produces the force tool usage notification.
Enchantment-based activation is available too. A Chopper enchantment can be registered so an enchanted tool fells trees in one go using the default breaking mode. Separate variants exist for specific modes: Chopper (instantaneous), Chopper (fall block), Chopper (fall all block), Chopper (fall item), and Chopper (shift down). If enchantment-based activation is required, the mod only works on tools carrying the enchantment. Registering these enchantments means clients need the mod, and a restart is required.
Finally, activation can be limited by player tags: if a required tag list is set, you need at least one matching tag for the mod to work; an empty list means no restriction.
