FallingTree Tool Lists, Durability, Multipliers, and Chopper Enchantments
FallingTree decides which tools may chop, how much punishment a tool takes, how quickly logs come down, and whether an enchantment can trigger the effect. This guide covers the tool allow and deny lists, forced tool usage, durability handling, damage and speed multipliers, and the Chopper enchantments.
Tool allow and deny lists
The mod keeps a list of extra tools that are permitted to fell trees. Anything carrying the axe tag is already accepted, so this list exists for items outside that tag. When you add entries, they must use the form `mod_id:item_id`; anything else is rejected as an invalid item.
A second list works in the opposite direction: tools named there are never treated as chopping tools. This deny list takes priority, so an item placed on both lists is refused.
The same pattern applies to blocks. There is an extra list of blocks treated as logs, on top of everything already carrying the log tag, and a deny list of blocks that must never count as logs. The deny list overrides the allow list. Leaves follow the identical structure: an extra list of blocks treated as leaves that decay on their own, a list of leaves that need to be broken manually, and deny lists for both that beat the allow lists. Entries here use the form `mod_id:block_id`.
Forced tool usage
With force tool usage switched on, you cannot chop unless the item in your hand qualifies as a valid tool. Trying with something unqualified produces the message that tool usage is forced and no valid tool was used. The deny list still applies, so it can narrow which tools count even when force usage is active.
Durability handling
A dedicated setting controls what happens as a tool approaches its breaking point, with four behaviours:
- ABORT stops the tree from being cut at all. Nothing breaks and the tool survives.
- SAVE breaks as many blocks as possible while leaving one point of durability. A tool already sitting at one durability will still break.
- NORMAL breaks as many blocks as it can and lets the tool break.
- BYPASS fells the entire tree no matter how little durability remains, and the tool breaks as a result.
When a tool is close to breaking, the mod warns that it is about to fail and suggests repairing it or finding another.
Damage and speed multipliers
The damage multiplicand sets how many times damage is applied to the tool. At 1, felling five logs costs five damage. At 2, the same five logs cost ten. Setting it to 0 still applies one damage per cut. This only applies to trees cut through the mod.
A separate setting decides how fractional damage is resolved: ROUNDING goes to the nearest whole number, ROUND_DOWN always drops the fraction, ROUND_UP always raises it, and PROBABILISTIC treats the fraction as the chance of rounding up, so 9.45 becomes 10 with a 45 percent chance and 9 otherwise.
The speed multiplicand changes how long felling takes. At 0 the modifier is off and normal block-breaking speed applies. At 1 each log counts once, so a five-log tree takes the time of five logs. At 2 each log counts twice, so the same tree takes the time of ten. This only applies in instantaneous mode. On a server, either leave it at 0 or make sure every player has the mod, otherwise blocks appear to break while remaining in place.
Chopper enchantments
Two registration options add Chopper enchantments. Register Chopper enchantment adds a single enchantment that lets the enchanted tool fell a tree in one go using the default breaking mode. Register Specific Chopper enchantment adds several variants, each tied to a particular breaking mode: instantaneous, fall block, fall all block, fall item, and shift down. Each variant makes the enchanted tool fell a tree in one go using that mode.
Both registration options require the mod on clients and need a restart. A further setting makes the enchantment undiscoverable and untradeable, and another requires an enchantment on the tool before the mod activates at all.
