FastPipes Barrel Upgrade Items: Tier Up Barrels Without Recrafting

guide

FastPipes barrel upgrade items let you raise an existing barrel to a higher tier without breaking it down and crafting a replacement from scratch. Each upgrade is a distinct item tied to one tier, and each one is made at a crafting table from a ring of ingots or gems around a single core ingredient. The core ingredient is always the material of the tier directly below the one you are moving into, which chains the upgrades together in a clear progression.

The Upgrade Chain

The upgrades form a ladder. You begin with a plain barrel and push it upward one tier at a time, and every step consumes the upgrade item for the tier you want.

Because each recipe uses the previous tier's material as its centerpiece, you cannot skip a step by crafting a top-tier upgrade directly from raw materials alone. The chain is deliberate: copper feeds iron, iron feeds gold, gold feeds diamond, and diamond feeds netherite.

Crafting Each Upgrade

All five upgrades use a shaped recipe at a crafting table. The pattern is consistent — eight of the outer material arranged around one core item — with two exceptions in the higher tiers.

Notice that the copper step is the only one that consumes a barrel directly. Every later upgrade consumes the metal or gem of the tier beneath it instead, so the barrel you already own carries forward through the whole chain.

Why Upgrading Beats Recrafting

Recrafting means gathering a full set of materials for a brand-new barrel and discarding the old one. Upgrading avoids that waste. You keep the barrel you already have and spend only the upgrade item, which itself is built from a modest ring of materials plus one core piece. For the higher tiers this matters most: the diamond and netherite steps ask for fewer outer materials than a full fresh craft would, and the netherite step leans on the ingot tag so any valid netherite ingot works.

The practical loop is simple. Craft the upgrade for the next tier, apply it to your current barrel, and repeat when you are ready to climb again. Plan your materials around the chain rather than around individual barrels, and you will always know what the next step costs.

Planning Your Materials

Work backward from your target tier. If you want a netherite barrel, you need a diamond to core the netherite upgrade, gold ingots to core the diamond upgrade, an iron ingot to core the gold upgrade, a copper ingot to core the iron upgrade, and a barrel to core the copper upgrade. Laying the chain out this way turns a scattered shopping list into a single ordered path, and it makes clear why holding onto your existing barrel is worthwhile at every stage.
