Configuring Vanilla Hands Mode and Dynamic View Switching in First-person Model

guide

First-person Model is configured entirely through its settings interface, which opens under the heading FirstPerson Settings. Every option below is a toggle or mode you change there; no crafting or item use is involved. The settings control when the mod shows your third-person body model and when it falls back to ordinary first-person hands.

The Main Toggle

The core switch is Toggle Firstperson. Turning it on enables the third-person model while you play in first person; turning it off returns you to the standard view. A related setting, Enabled by default, decides what state the mod starts in each time you launch the game. Its tooltip describes it as the default state of the mod after starting the game, so if you prefer to begin with the body model active, enable it, and if you would rather opt in manually each session, leave it off.

Vanilla Hands Mode

Vanilla Hands Mode controls whether the ordinary first-person hands are drawn. When active, it shows the vanilla first-person hands instead of the body model. A second behaviour tied to this mode makes the vanilla hands view change according to your current view, so the hands presentation follows whatever perspective you are already using.

This mode is the manual counterpart to the automatic behaviour described below. Use it when you want the standard hands for a specific situation and are willing to switch it yourself.

Auto Vanilla Hands

Auto Vanilla Hands handles the switch for you. Its tooltip states that it automatically switches to vanilla hands whenever you are holding items, and separately that it disables the mod while you hold the specified items. In practice this means you keep the body model for empty-handed movement and general play, while any held item causes the view to revert to vanilla hands.

This is the setting to reach for if the body model looks wrong or awkward with certain items in hand and you would prefer not to toggle anything mid-game.

Dynamic View Switching

Dynamic switching is the behaviour that changes the Vanilla Hands view based on your current view. Rather than locking the hands to one presentation, the mod adjusts them to match the perspective you are in. Combine this with Auto Vanilla Hands if you want both automatic item-based switching and view-based adjustment; the two work alongside each other.

Swimming Exception

Disable Vanilla Hands while Swimming exists to override the rest. Its tooltip says it disables the vanilla hands while swimming and that it also ignores the dynamic mode. That last part matters: even if dynamic switching would otherwise apply, swimming takes priority and the vanilla hands stay off. Enable this if the hands behave badly in water and you want the body model to remain visible there.

Body Movement Options

Several settings move the body relative to the camera back and forth. Separate toggles cover this motion in general, while sneaking, and while sitting. These affect how the body shifts as you look around, so adjust them if the model feels too rigid or too loose during those poses.

Rendering Arrows and Stings

Render Arrows & Stings controls whether arrows, bee stings, and similar modded features appear while you are in first person. Turn it on if you want to see these attached to your view, or off if they clutter it.

Hotkeys

Some actions in this mod are bound to keys rather than placed in the settings screen. For any such action, use the corresponding hotkey and set it in the controls menu if you want a different binding. No default key is assumed here; assign whatever is comfortable and free of conflicts.
