Setting Spectator and Creative Fog Distances in Fog Overrides
Fog Overrides lets you control fog distance separately for spectator and creative mode, including distinct values for air, water, and lava. All configuration happens through the mod's interface, which you open with the Open Config Keybinding — assign it in the controls menu, then press that key while in game. There is also a Toggle Fog Overrides keybinding you can set the same way to turn the mod on or off.
Per-Gamemode Overrides
Each gamemode has its own override switch. Enabling the override for spectator mode makes the mod apply your spectator fog values; enabling the creative override does the same for creative mode. If an override is off, that gamemode keeps its normal fog behaviour.
Under each override you will find near and far distance fields:
- Spectator Fog Near Distance and Spectator Fog Far Distance control air fog in spectator mode. Near is where fog begins rendering; far is where it becomes fully opaque.
- Spectator Water Fog Near Distance and Spectator Water Fog Far Distance do the same while the camera is underwater.
- Spectator Lava Fog Near Distance and Spectator Lava Fog Far Distance apply while under lava.
Creative mode mirrors this exactly with Creative Fog Near Distance, Creative Fog Far Distance, Creative Water Fog Near Distance, Creative Water Fog Far Distance, Creative Lava Fog Near Distance, and Creative Lava Fog Far Distance.
One rule applies to every pair: the near distance must be smaller than the far distance.
Calculation Types
A Calculation Types setting changes how distances are interpreted:
- Blocks = Hard treats the value as a fixed block distance from the player.
- Percent treats it as a percentage of your render distance.
- Percent/Blocks treats it as a block distance derived from a percentage of the current render distance.
There is also a toggle for whether fog should smoothly transition between states, and an Advanced F3 Information option that shows detailed data about the mod's behaviour.
Water and Lava Master Switches
Water fog and lava fog each have an enable toggle. Turning water fog off disables it entirely and stops every water distance setting from having any effect. The same applies to lava fog: disabling it prevents all lava distance values from applying.
Related options let you adjust fog under potion effects. Water Breathing Potion Fog enables separate near and far values used while a water breathing potion is active. Fire Resistance Potion Fog does the same for lava while fire resistance is active.
Other Rendering Options
The mod also exposes a mode fog renderer behaviour setting with choices to disable fog completely, use the configured mod fog rendering, use vanilla fog instead, or use gamemode-specific overrides. Additional toggles cover cloud render height, the underwater overlay texture, and the fire overlay texture, plus Fire Overlay Offset and Fire Potion Overlay Offset for shifting the fire overlay's vertical position.
Colors and Server Notes
Color overrides exist for sky, fog, water, water fog, and water fog color, each with its own enable switch and color value. Some settings may be changed by a server; when that is possible, the interface marks the setting as server-overridable. A few options require reloading the world before they take effect.
