FPS Reducer Advanced Settings: GUI FPS, Manual Idle, and Mouse Hold Options

guide

FPS Reducer includes several advanced options beyond its basic idle behavior, letting you control frame rates in menus, trigger idle mode by hand, and fine-tune how the mod reacts to input. These settings live in the mod's configuration and advanced options screens.

Opening the Configuration

The main configuration screen is titled FPS Reducer Configuration, and a separate FPS Reducer Advanced Options screen holds additional controls. Both are reached through the mod's interface rather than through crafting or items.

GUI Screen FPS

The guiScreenFps setting caps the frame rate while you are in interface screens — the inventory, menu screens, and similar GUI views. Lowering this value keeps your GPU from rendering those screens at full speed.

A related toggle, reducingInGameMenu, controls whether the frame rate is reduced while the game menu is open.

Forcing Idle Manually

The forceIdle option reduces FPS on demand instead of waiting for the automatic idle trigger. Use it when you want the idle frame limit applied right away.

Automatic Idle Behavior

Several settings govern how the mod enters its idle state:

  • waitingTime — How long the client waits with no operation before switching to idle. Moving the slider all the way to the right turns this off. The value is shown in minutes and seconds.
  • idleFps — The frame rate ceiling once the client is idle, applied after the specified period without operation.
  • noActFps — The frame rate ceiling during no operation. Once inactivity is detected, the frame rate is limited to this value immediately.

Background and Sound Options

  • reducingInBackground — Reduces FPS when the client is inactive, such as when the window is not focused.
  • suppressSound — Silences sound while the client is inactive.

Ignoring Held Mouse Buttons

The ignoreHoldButton option makes the mod disregard a mouse button that is being held down. Enable it if holding a mouse button prevents the client from being treated as inactive when you want idle behavior to kick in.

FPS Counter Position

The counter's placement is adjustable. Pick one of the eight reference positions using the check boxes arranged along the edges of the screen, then drag the box that marks where the counter sits. The arrow keys or the WASD keys can also be used to move that box.

Profiles

FPS Reducer ships with preset profiles that bundle these behaviors:

  • Modest — FPS drops when the client is in the background or in the ESC menu. This is the default.
  • Eco — Matches the original FPS Reducer default: FPS drops when the client is in the background, in the ESC menu, or after ten minutes without operation.
  • Situational Cooling (Low) — Actively manages load based on what is happening, intended for PCs running at 60fps or above. On top of the Eco behavior, FPS is capped at 60 when your character is stationary, in the inventory screen, or in any GUI screen. VSync and the Max Framerate option in Video Settings can reduce how noticeable this is.
  • Situational Cooling (High) — Stronger load suppression for weaker PCs. In addition to the Eco behavior, FPS is capped at 30 when your character is stationary, in the inventory screen, or in any GUI screen.

Quick Reference

  • Cap menu and inventory frame rates: guiScreenFps
  • Reduce FPS in the game menu: reducingInGameMenu
  • Trigger idle reduction by hand: forceIdle
  • Change the idle delay: waitingTime (slider to the far right disables it)
  • Set the idle frame ceiling: idleFps
  • Set the immediate no-operation ceiling: noActFps
  • Reduce FPS when the window is inactive: reducingInBackground
  • Mute sound when inactive: suppressSound
  • Ignore a held mouse button: ignoreHoldButton

Adjust these alongside the profile that best matches your hardware, and the mod will handle frame limiting automatically from there.
