Passing Through Blocks in Freecam: Transparent, Openable, Custom, Regex, and Ignore-All Settings
Freecam lets you detach the camera from your character and move it around independently, and its collision settings decide which blocks the camera can pass through. This guide covers the five collision-related options and how they interact.
Where These Settings Live
All of the options below belong to the mod's configuration interface, and each one carries a tooltip explaining its purpose. The relevant entries are Ignore Transparent Blocks, Ignore Openable Blocks, Custom Ignore List, Ignore Regular Expressions, and Ignore All Collision. Toggle them on or off as needed; the camera's behaviour updates to match.
Transparent Blocks
Ignore Transparent Blocks lets the camera move through blocks that are see-through. With it switched on, materials like glass no longer stop your movement. With it off, the camera treats them as solid.
Openable Blocks
Ignore Openable Blocks covers doors, trapdoors, and gates. Enabling it means the camera slides straight through these fixtures instead of being blocked by them. Disabling it restores normal collision for those blocks.
Custom Ignore List
Custom Ignore List lets you name specific blocks the camera should pass through. Entries use a block id, for example `grass_block`. If you leave out the namespace, `minecraft:` is filled in for you, so `grass_block` and `minecraft:grass_block` mean the same thing.
One important restriction: this option only works in singleplayer, in creative mode, or when you hold operator status.
Regular Expressions
Ignore Regular Expressions accepts regex syntax rather than plain block ids. Each pattern is tested against the complete block id, such as `minecraft:grass_block`. This is the flexible choice when you want to match a family of blocks with one entry instead of listing them individually.
Ignore All Collision
Ignore All Collision removes collision entirely, letting the camera travel through every block. It takes priority over the other four settings, so when it is active, the transparent, openable, custom, and regex options no longer determine what you can pass through.
A Related Check
Always Check Initial Collision controls whether the starting camera position is tested for collision, even while Ignore All Collision is in use. Turn it on if you want that initial placement validated rather than skipped.
Operating the Camera
Movement itself is governed by separate settings: one tooltip describes how the camera moves, another covers the flight type, and two more set the horizontal and vertical speeds. Key bindings for freecam are listed under their own tooltip, so assign them in the controls menu and use the corresponding hotkey for each action. Nothing here requires crafting — everything is handled through the interface and your chosen keys.
Notifications and Server Limits
If you want feedback when the camera state changes, Freecam Notifications alerts you on entering and exiting freecam, and Tripod Notifications does the same for tripod cameras. Notification Options let you show or hide these messages generally.
Finally, some servers block the feature outright. When that happens you will see a message that freecam is restricted on the current server. Multiplayer Options let you allow or disallow freecam per server using a whitelist or blacklist, so you can decide in advance where it is permitted.
