Freecam Usage Guide: Camera Look, Perspective, Interactions, and Multiplayer Rules

guide

Freecam is a Minecraft utility mod that lets you detach your view from your player and move a camera around the world. This guide covers how the camera behaves, what you can configure about its look and movement, how interactions work, and what to expect on multiplayer servers.

Camera Look and Initial Perspective

The Camera Look setting controls the appearance of the freecam view itself. Initial Perspective determines the perspective the camera starts in when freecam activates. A related option lets you see your player rendered at its original position, so you always know where your body is standing while the camera is elsewhere.

Always Check Initial Collision decides whether the initial perspective checks for collision, even when Ignore All Collision is turned on. This matters if you want the camera to avoid spawning inside solid geometry despite otherwise ignoring block collision.

Movement and Collision Options

Several settings control how the camera travels:

  • Flight Type sets the style of flight the freecam uses.
  • Horizontal Speed and Vertical Speed adjust how fast the camera moves in each direction.
  • Ignore Transparent Blocks lets the camera pass through transparent blocks.
  • Ignore Openable Blocks lets it pass through doors, trapdoors, and gates.
  • Custom Ignore List lets you travel through specific blocks. Entries use block IDs such as `grass_block`, and if you leave out the namespace, `minecraft:` is assumed. This option can only be used in singleplayer, creative mode, or with operator status.
  • Ignore Regular Expressions matches patterns against full block IDs, for example `minecraft:grass_block`.
  • Ignore All Collision lets the camera pass through every block. It overrides the other ignore settings above.

Look, Hand, Brightness, and Fog

A group of options changes what you see while in freecam:

  • Show Hand controls whether your hand is visible.
  • Brightness increases brightness while freecam is active.
  • Show Submersion Fog controls whether a fog overlay appears when the camera is underwater, in lava, or in powdered snow.

Interactions

You can choose whether to interact with blocks and entities while in freecam. Interaction Mode selects the source of those block and entity interactions. Note that interaction is only possible in certain situations unless you are using the Player interaction mode.

Enhancements and Safety

Additional enhancement options include disabling freecam automatically when you take damage, and preventing player movement while freecam is active. The movement-prevention option carries a warning: it is not advised for multiplayer use.

Multiplayer Server Rules

The Multiplayer Options section contains settings for multiplayer servers. You can allow or disallow freecam on specific servers using either a whitelist or a blacklist. When a server restricts freecam, the mod reports that freecam is restricted on the current server.

Notifications

Notification settings let you show or hide alerts. Freecam Notifications tells you when you enter or exit freecam. Tripod Notifications tells you when you enter or exit tripod cameras.

Controls

Freecam key bindings are configurable. To change any of them, open the controls menu and assign the corresponding hotkey for the action you want. Actions include toggling freecam on and off and moving the camera. When freecam is enabled or disabled, the mod confirms it with a notification if notifications are turned on.
