FTB Chunks Waypoints and Deathpoints: Create, Share, and Manage Them

guide

FTB Chunks lets you mark locations, share them with others, and control how they appear as you play. Waypoints are points you place yourself, while deathpoints are created automatically when you die, provided the relevant option is switched on. Everything here is handled through the mod's interface and its hotkeys rather than through crafting.

Creating waypoints

Use the Quick Add Waypoint action to place a waypoint at your current position. Once a waypoint exists, it appears on the map and, if in world waypoints is enabled, in the world itself. When you create a waypoint you must give it a name; if the name field is left empty, the interface asks you to enter a name before it will accept the waypoint.

Deathpoints

Turning on Create death waypoints on death means a waypoint is generated at the spot where you died. These deathpoints can pile up over time, so the mod offers Clear all Death Waypoints to remove them all at once. A single deathpoint can also disappear on its own: the death waypoint autoremove distance setting defines a radius, and if you come closer to the nearest deathpoint than that distance, it is deleted automatically and you are told that the waypoint was auto-removed. Setting the value to zero switches this behaviour off.

Sharing waypoints

Waypoint sharing is split into three permissions: Allow Sharing waypoints with Party, Allow Sharing waypoints with Server, and Allow Sharing waypoints with Players. When someone shares a waypoint with you, you receive a notice naming the waypoint and telling you that it has been shared with you, along with a prompt to click in order to add it. When you share one outward, you get a confirmation that you shared that waypoint. Sharing can also be managed per player through whitelist and blacklist entries, which you reach with a right click.

Visibility, distance, and fading

Several settings govern how waypoints are drawn. waypoint max distance sets the furthest point at which a waypoint is drawn. waypoint fade distance controls the minimum distance at which a beacon-style waypoint begins to fade, and waypoint dot fade distance does the same job for the dot form. Focused waypoints behave differently: waypoint focus distance decides how near your crosshair must be to a waypoint before its name shows, and waypoint focus scale decides how large a focused waypoint becomes. If you want waypoints gone from the world view entirely, use the Toggle Visibility control, which switches between on and off states.

Managing and removing waypoints

Deleting a waypoint prompts you with a confirmation naming that waypoint, so you can back out before it is removed. Deathpoints are cleared in bulk through Clear all Death Waypoints. The map's key and mouse reference lists the available map controls, including opening the chunk claim screen, opening the settings screen, centering the view on your player, teleporting to a point where you have operator rights, and toggling the chunk grid. Hold Alt to display absolute times, which is useful when checking claim and force-load timings.

Map and minimap notes

The map has a max zoom constraint option. While it is on, how far you can zoom out is limited by how many regions you have explored and how much memory is free; if that restriction gets in the way, it can be turned off. A related warning notes that maximum zoom-out is capped because of memory limits. For the minimap, Show player when not locked north controls whether your player marker stays visible when the map is not locked to north, and Minimap Pointer Icon Mode selects the pointer style.

The chunk claiming reference covers claim and force-load dragging, adjusting force-load expiry with the mouse wheel, holding Tab to hide the chunk grid, and holding Alt to see absolute claim and force times. Admin Mode can be switched on to modify chunks regardless of who owns them, and a bypass protection state can likewise be enabled or disabled. If the mod is missing on the server side, the game reports that FTB Chunks requires the mod on the server.
