Exploring Galosphere’s New Biomes and Structures

guide

This guide covers the biomes and structures added by the Galosphere mod, focusing on where they generate and what to expect when you visit them.

New Biomes

Galosphere introduces three temperate biomes (temperature 0.5). All three share the same set of hostile mob spawns: spider, zombie, zombie villager, skeleton, creeper, and slime. Bring standard combat gear and torches when exploring any of them.

Crystal Canyons

This biome features dramatic canyon terrain. The temperate climate means no extreme weather. Hostile mobs spawn here at the same rates as the other new biomes, so expect the usual mix of undead, arachnids, and creepers. Slimes can also appear, making the ground hazardous in open areas.

Lichen Caves

This underground biome is defined by lichen growth covering surfaces. The temperate conditions keep it from being too cold or hot. The same monster list applies: spiders, zombies, zombie villagers, skeletons, creepers, and slimes. Because it is a cave, watch for slimes spawning in larger open chambers and skeletons shooting from dark corners.

Pink Salt Caves

This biome is filled with pink salt formations. It is also temperate, with the same hostile mob roster as the other biomes. The pink salt terrain can be uneven and may obstruct movement, so bring a pickaxe or blocks to navigate. Slimes and creepers are particularly dangerous in tight cave passages.

New Structures

Galosphere adds two structures with distinct generation rules and effects on mob spawning.

Forgotten Ruins

These ruins generate in specific chunk regions defined by the mod’s structure tags. Placement is limited to one attempt per 32x32 chunk area, and individual ruins must be at least 8 chunks apart. This means they are relatively rare, so exploring large distances may be necessary to find one.

A key feature of the Forgotten Ruins is that they override monster spawning. This means the normal hostile mob spawning rules are replaced within the structure’s bounds. You may find different or reduced monster activity here compared to the surrounding biomes. Bring supplies for a longer search, as the spacing makes them uncommon.

Pink Salt Shrine

The Pink Salt Shrine is more common than the Forgotten Ruins. It generates with one attempt per 15x15 chunk region, also with a minimum of 8 chunks between shrines. This denser placement makes shrines easier to locate during exploration.

The shrine overrides spawning for a wide range of mob categories, including ambient, axolotls, creature, misc, monster, underground water creature, water ambient, and water creature. This means nearly all standard mob spawning is suppressed inside the structure. You will likely encounter fewer hostile mobs here, and even passive or water-based mobs will not spawn normally. This makes the shrine a relatively safe area to explore, but do not assume it is completely empty.

Exploration Tips

  • Pack light but prepared: All three biomes share the same hostile spawns, so armor, a weapon, and torches are essential.
  • Use structure spacing: The Forgotten Ruins are spaced widely (8+ chunks apart in a 32x32 region), while Pink Salt Shrines are closer together (8+ chunks apart in a 15x15 region). Plan your route accordingly.
  • Check mob behavior: In structures, spawning overrides mean you cannot rely on normal mob patterns. The Pink Salt Shrine disables most spawn types entirely, while the Forgotten Ruins only affect monster spawns.
  • Watch terrain: Crystal Canyons and Pink Salt Caves have uneven ground. Use blocks or careful jumping to avoid falls, and keep an eye out for slimes in open spaces.

These biomes and structures offer distinct exploration targets. The caves provide new underground scenery, while the structures—especially the rarer Forgotten Ruins—reward thorough searching.
