Receivers, Speakers, and Playback Devices for Glaiden's Audio
The
Radio Receiver is the entry point for hearing broadcasts in Glaiden's Audio, and it is also the cheapest device to build: an
Antenna, four
Iron Ingot, one
Circuit Board, and one
Speaker in a shaped recipe. Everything else in the listening chain is an upgrade or a sidegrade to that one block, so it pays to know what each device does before you spend diamonds on a
High Quality Radio Receiver.
The basic listening chain
A broadcast only reaches you if something on your end can pick it up. The
Radio Receiver is that something. It combines three roles in a single block: the
Antenna handles reception, the
Circuit Board handles the signal processing, and the
Speaker turns the result into audible sound. You need one of each, plus four
Iron Ingot for the chassis, arranged as a shaped recipe.
Because the recipe is shaped, ingredient placement matters — you cannot scatter the parts into a crafting grid and hope. Keep the
Antenna and
Speaker where the recipe expects them and fill the body with
Iron Ingot.
Upgrading to high quality
The
High Quality Radio Receiver is not a separate machine you build from scratch. It is a direct upgrade of an existing
Radio Receiver: surround one
Radio Receiver with four
Diamond in a shaped recipe and you get the high quality version back.
That makes the upgrade path unusually clean. Build the cheap
Radio Receiver first, confirm your
Antenna placement is actually pulling in a signal, and only then commit the diamonds. If you craft the
High Quality Radio Receiver before you have a working reception setup, you have spent four
Diamond to debug the same problem you could have debugged for free.
Speakers and how they differ
The
Speaker is the component that makes sound possible at all. It appears in every listening recipe in the mod, which tells you something important: there is no way to hear a broadcast without one. If you are short on
Speaker, you are short on every device on this page.
Two devices exist specifically to push sound outward rather than into your own ears:
- The
Boombox takes six
Iron Ingot, two
Speaker, and one
Circuit Board. The doubled
Speaker count is the giveaway that this is a louder, wider-coverage option than a plain receiver. - The
Loudspeaker takes seven
Iron Ingot, one
Speaker, and one
Circuit Board. It trades the
Boombox's second
Speaker for an extra
Iron Ingot, making it the heavier build of the two.
Both are shaped recipes, and both need a
Circuit Board, so plan your circuit production around the fact that every device here consumes one.
Redstone Dynamic
The
Redstone Dynamic is the odd one out. Its recipe is four
Iron Ingot, four
Redstone Dust, and one
Speaker — no
Circuit Board and no
Antenna at all.
That absence is the useful detail. Where the
Radio Receiver,
Boombox, and
Loudspeaker all route through a
Circuit Board and depend on an
Antenna for reception, the
Redstone Dynamic is built purely from metal, redstone, and a
Speaker. If you are working without a
Circuit Board supply, or you have not yet crafted an
Antenna, this is the device you can still build.
Planning your materials
Reading the recipes together gives you a shopping list rather than five separate puzzles.
Iron Ingot is the backbone. The
Radio Receiver wants four, the
Boombox six, the
Loudspeaker seven, and the
Redstone Dynamic four. If you intend to build one of each, that is twenty-one
Iron Ingot before you have touched anything else.
Speaker is the second constraint. The
Radio Receiver,
Loudspeaker, and
Redstone Dynamic each need one, and the
Boombox needs two — six
Speaker for a full set.
Circuit Board is needed by the
Radio Receiver,
Boombox, and
Loudspeaker, but not by the
Redstone Dynamic. Three
Circuit Board covers those three devices.
Antenna appears exactly once, in the
Radio Receiver. Since the
High Quality Radio Receiver is crafted from a finished
Radio Receiver rather than from raw parts, you never need a second
Antenna for the upgrade.
Diamond appears only in the
High Quality Radio Receiver, at four per upgrade.
Redstone Dust appears only in the
Redstone Dynamic, at four per craft.
Choosing what to build
If you want one device and nothing else, build the
Radio Receiver. It is the least expensive way to hear a broadcast and it is the prerequisite for the
High Quality Radio Receiver, so nothing you spend on it is wasted.
If you already have a
Radio Receiver and diamonds to spare, the
High Quality Radio Receiver is a straight conversion of a block you own.
If you want sound projected to an area rather than to yourself, choose between the
Boombox and the
Loudspeaker. The
Boombox costs one more
Speaker; the
Loudspeaker costs one more
Iron Ingot. Pick based on which of those two materials you have in surplus.
If you are locked out of
Circuit Board production, the
Redstone Dynamic is your only option on this list, and it needs nothing but
Iron Ingot,
Redstone Dust, and a
Speaker.
