Two-Way Communication with Telephones, Cellphones and Microphones
Two-way voice in Glaiden's Audio comes down to three craftable devices: the
Telephone, the
Cellphone, and the
Microphone. All three are built around the same two components, a
Microphone Capsule for input and a
Speaker for output, which is why they share a family resemblance in both recipe and function.
The shared parts
Before you build any of the three, you need a
Microphone Capsule and a
Speaker. Every device in this guide uses both, so producing them in batches saves you a trip back to the crafting table. The
Circuit Board is the other recurring ingredient, appearing in all three recipes as well.
Notice what is not shared: the
Telephone and the
Microphone both want
Iron Ingot, but in different amounts, and the
Cellphone takes a single
Iron Ingot alongside a
Glass Pane that neither of the other two uses. That
Glass Pane is the clearest visual difference between the
Cellphone and the
Telephone on the crafting grid.
Crafting the Telephone
The
Telephone is the heaviest iron investment of the three. Its shaped recipe combines one
Microphone Capsule, four
Iron Ingot, one
Circuit Board, and one
Speaker.
Four
Iron Ingot is a real cost if you are equipping more than one base, so plan your iron around it. The payoff is a fixed communication point: a
Telephone stays where you put it, which suits a room you return to rather than a device you carry.
Crafting the Cellphone
The
Cellphone trades iron for glass. Its shaped recipe uses one
Glass Pane, one
Microphone Capsule, one
Circuit Board, one
Speaker, and one
Iron Ingot.
Compared with the
Telephone, you spend three fewer
Iron Ingot and add a
Glass Pane. If iron is tight and sand is not, the
Cellphone is the cheaper build of the two. Build it when you want the same
Microphone Capsule and
Speaker pairing without committing four ingots to a single unit.
Crafting the Microphone
The
Microphone is the input-focused device of the set. Its shaped recipe is one
Microphone Capsule, one
Circuit Board, and three
Iron Ingot.
Three
Iron Ingot sits between the
Cellphone and the
Telephone in cost, and unlike either of those it skips the
Speaker entirely. If your goal is capturing voice rather than holding a conversation, the
Microphone is the direct route, and it leaves your
Speaker stock free for the devices that actually need one.
Choosing between them
Line the three recipes up and the decision is mostly about iron and about whether you need a
Speaker in the finished item.
Microphone: one
Microphone Capsule, one
Circuit Board, three
Iron Ingot. No
Speaker.
Cellphone: one
Glass Pane, one
Microphone Capsule, one
Circuit Board, one
Speaker, one
Iron Ingot.
Telephone: one
Microphone Capsule, four
Iron Ingot, one
Circuit Board, one
Speaker.
If you are building a set rather than a single device, count your
Microphone Capsule and
Circuit Board needs first, since both appear in all three recipes and neither is optional.
Speaker comes second, needed by the
Telephone and the
Cellphone but not the
Microphone.
Iron Ingot is the flexible resource: one for the
Cellphone, three for the
Microphone, four for the
Telephone.
A practical build order
Because the
Microphone Capsule and
Circuit Board gate every recipe, craft those first and let their count decide how many devices you can finish. Then decide your
Speaker run based on whether you are building
Telephones,
Cellphones, or both.
A common pattern is to start with the
Microphone, since it needs the fewest distinct parts and no
Speaker, then move to the
Cellphone once you have
Glass Pane on hand, and finally commit four
Iron Ingot to a
Telephone for a fixed location. That order keeps you from stalling on iron partway through a build.
Whichever you pick, the
Microphone Capsule is the component you will run out of first. Keep a steady supply of them and the rest of the recipes stay open.
