Broadcasting Audio With Transmitters, Stations, and Towers
A
Radio Transmitter is the block that puts your audio on the air, and it is the first thing to build if you want anything else in Glaiden's Audio to have a signal to carry. Everything downstream — stations, towers, retranslators — exists to move or extend what a transmitter starts, so the transmitter is the natural place to begin a broadcast setup.
Building the Transmitter
The recipe is shaped and needs a
Tuner and a
Circuit Board alongside an
Antenna and four
Iron Ingot.
Antenna x1
Iron Ingot x4
Circuit Board x1
Tuner x1
Place the
Radio Transmitter where you want the signal to originate. Because it is the source rather than a relay, its position defines the coverage of everything you build around it.
Adding a Radio Station
A
Radio Station is the fuller studio block. Its recipe is also shaped and is the most demanding of the basic three, combining the transmitter's core parts with audio hardware:
Iron Ingot x4
Antenna x1
Speaker x1
Circuit Board x1
Microphone Capsule x1
Tuner x1
The
Speaker and
Microphone Capsule are what separate a
Radio Station from a bare
Radio Transmitter — one handles playback, the other captures input. If your goal is to produce audio rather than merely send it, build the station.
Extending Range With Towers
A
Radio Tower carries a signal further. It is cheaper than the station and leans heavily on iron and antennas:
Iron Ingot x6
Antenna x2
Circuit Board x1
Once you have a
Radio Tower, you can upgrade it. The
Smart Radio Tower is a shapeless recipe that consumes the tower plus a
Tuner and a
Circuit Board:
Radio Tower x1
Tuner x1
Circuit Board x1
Because the recipe is shapeless, the arrangement of the three ingredients in the grid does not matter. The
Smart Radio Tower is also a required component of the largest build in the set, so it is worth making even before you need the retranslator.
Crossing Dimensions
The
Interdimensional Retranslator is the endgame piece for anyone who wants audio to survive a trip through a portal. It is shaped and expensive:
Eye of Ender x1
Ender Pearl x2
Smart Radio Tower x1
Circuit Board x1
Note the ordering here: you cannot skip straight to the
Interdimensional Retranslator, because it eats a
Smart Radio Tower, which in turn eats a plain
Radio Tower. Budget six
Iron Ingot, two
Antenna, and two
Circuit Board for the tower chain alone, then add the ender materials on top.
Finding Frequencies
The
Frequency Scanner is the tool that tells you what is out there. It is a small shaped recipe:
Tuner x1
Circuit Board x1
Iron Ingot x1
Every block in this list wants a
Tuner, and most want a
Circuit Board, so those two components are the real bottleneck in a broadcast build. Craft them in bulk before you start on the larger blocks — running out of a
Circuit Board halfway through a
Radio Station is the most common way these projects stall.
A Sensible Build Order
Work outward from the cheapest part to the most expensive:
- Craft a
Frequency Scanner first so you can see what is already broadcasting before you add to it. - Build a
Radio Transmitter as your signal source. - Add a
Radio Station if you need to capture and play audio rather than just send it. - Place
Radio Tower blocks to push coverage outward. - Upgrade a tower into a
Smart Radio Tower with a
Tuner and a
Circuit Board. - Finish with the
Interdimensional Retranslator once you have a
Smart Radio Tower to spare.
The
Antenna appears in the transmitter, the station, and the tower, and twice over in the tower's own recipe, so it is the single component you will craft most often. Stockpile
Iron Ingot as well — it shows up in five of the six recipes above, and the
Radio Tower alone asks for six of them.
