Geomancy, Storm, Wind, Void, and Nether Offensive Spell Focuses in Goety Cataclysm
Goety Cataclysm adds a set of offensive spell focuses tied to geomancy, storm, wind, void, and nether magic, and each one behaves differently depending on the staff used to cast it. This guide covers what each focus does and how staff choice changes the result.
Geomancy Focuses
Geomancy focuses lean on earth and stone, and the Geo Staff amplifies most of them.
Amethyst Cluster Focus: The caster fires a spread of amethysts outward in all directions, echoing the attack of the crab that dropped the material. Casting it through a Geo Staff increases the number of amethysts fired.
Desert Crush Focus: Ancient Desert Steles appear in a ring around the caster, then fall onto anything beneath them, hurting every target that is not allied to the caster. A Geo Staff adds extra rows of Steles to the barrage.
Earth Shake Focus: Small shockwaves burst out from the caster's feet and travel forward, injuring enemies along their path. With a Geo Staff, more shockwaves are produced and they travel at a faster pace.
Storm Focuses
Storm focuses call on lightning and rain, and the Storm Staff is the matching catalyst.
Lightning Spear Focus: A spear made of lightning is launched at the target point. Where it lands, it leaves behind a compact storm cloud that keeps hurting enemies who stand within it. When cast with a Storm Staff, two spears are fired instead of one.
Thunder Rage Focus: This spell recreates Scylla's fury and must be channeled continuously. While channeling, the caster surrounds themselves with whirlwinds and storm clouds. When the channel finishes, a volley of water and lightning spears rains down from the clouds above, aimed wherever the caster is looking. A Storm Staff increases the number of lightning spears and makes them deal bonus damage scaled to the target's maximum health.
Wind Focus
Wind magic in this set revolves around sand and cyclones, and the Wind Staff strengthens it.
Sandstorm Focus: Instead of releasing a single cyclone, this spell creates several sandy cyclones that circle the caster. Any non-allied target pulled into them takes damage. Casting with a Wind Staff raises the number of sandstorms summoned.
Choosing a Staff
The staff in hand is not cosmetic for these focuses. Each focus belongs to a magical school, and the corresponding staff either multiplies the spell's output or adds a new property:
- Geo Staff boosts the three geomancy focuses by adding projectiles, rows, or speed.
- Storm Staff upgrades both storm focuses, doubling spears or adding health-scaled damage.
- Wind Staff increases how many sandstorms a single cast produces.
Because the staff changes the spell rather than merely its damage, pairing the right focus with the right staff matters more than raw casting speed. A focus cast through a mismatched staff still functions, but it will not receive the extra effects described above.
Practical Notes
- Several of these spells, such as
Desert Crush Focus and
Sandstorm Focus, only harm non-allied targets, so they can be used near allies without friendly fire.
Thunder Rage Focus is the only focus here that requires continuous casting; releasing it early prevents the final barrage.
Lightning Spear Focus leaves a lingering hazard at the impact point, so aim matters even after the spear lands.
Pick the focus that matches the staff you carry, and the spell will do noticeably more than its base effect.
