GraveStone Mod: Keeping Your Items After Death
GraveStone Mod places a grave holding your items whenever you die, so a death no longer means losing everything. This guide covers how it works.
The grave
Every time you die, a 
Grave is placed at your position containing your items. To get them back, simply break the grave — or, with a config option enabled, sneak on it to retrieve everything. Right-clicking a grave shows information about that death. You can also craft a Grave yourself from two 
Cobblestone and three 
Dirt.
Slot sorting
A key convenience: the grave can store your items back into their original inventory slots when you retrieve them, so your hotbar and armor return where they belong rather than in a jumbled pile. This makes recovering from a death fast and tidy.
The Obituary
Each death also produces an 
Obituary — a record listing the player's name, the dimension they died in, the date, and the coordinates of the death. It is a handy way to find your way back to where you died, and it can be disabled in the config if you prefer. Together, the grave and obituary turn death into a recoverable, well-documented event.
The entire mod is one recipe
GraveStone Mod is two pages, two items, no blocks and a single crafting recipe on both versions. There is nothing to unlock, no tier to reach and no second feature waiting behind the first.
That is unusual enough to be worth stating plainly, because it sets expectations: this mod does one job, it does it automatically, and the one craftable item is a convenience rather than a requirement.
Why it has no blocks
The grave itself is generated when you die rather than placed from an inventory item, which is why the mod registers no blocks. You never craft or carry a gravestone — the mod creates one for you at the point of death.
Version note
The 1.21.1 build (1.0.40) and the 1.20.1 build (1.0.35) each carry the same single recipe, so behaviour is identical across versions.
What to do with it
Because there is no setup, the practical advice is about death rather than crafting: know where your grave is before you return for it, and remember that a grave protects the contents from despawn in a way loose items do not. The one craftable item exists to make recovery easier, and it is worth having before a risky trip rather than after one.
