Hexerei Basics: Wood Types, Early Machines, and Crafting
This guide covers the basic machines, wood types, and early crafting recipes in the Hexerei mod.
Wood Types and the Woodcutting Table
Hexerei introduces a robust woodcutting system that lets you turn logs, slabs, and other wooden blocks into more useful items. The woodcutting table has over a thousand recipes, so you can rely on it for most of your wood-based needs.
For example, you can take 
Acacia Planks or an 
Acacia Slab and convert them into an 
Acacia Boat, 
Acacia Boat with Chest, 
Acacia Button, 
Acacia Door, 
Acacia Fence, or 
Acacia Fence Gate. The same inputs can also produce an 
Acacia Pressure Plate, 
Acacia Sign, or Acacia Slab. If you have an 
Acacia Log, 
Acacia Wood, 
Stripped Acacia Log, or 
Stripped Acacia Wood, you can break them down into Acacia Planks. Even 
Acacia Stairs can be recycled back into planks or slabs.
This system means you do not need to waste materials. Any spare wooden part can be reprocessed into something else you need.
Mahogany and Its Recipes
Mahogany is a key wood type in Hexerei. It appears in many early crafting recipes, so gathering a good supply is wise.
To build the 
Altar, you will need three 
Mahogany Slabs and four 
Mahogany Planks. This is one of your first major structures.
Other Mahogany-based items include:
Mahogany Boat – five planks
Mahogany Button – one plank- Mahogany Chest – eight planks
Mahogany Door – six planks, yielding three doors
Mahogany Fence – four planks and two sticks, yielding three fences
Mahogany Fence Gate – two planks and four sticks
You can also craft a 
Mahogany Chest Boat by combining a Chest with a Mahogany Boat. Adding a 
Gold Ingot to five planks makes a 
Mahogany Broom Stand, and three planks plus a Gold Ingot creates a 
Mahogany Courier Depot.
For drying herbs, the 
Mahogany Drying Rack is made from two Mahogany Buttons, one 
Stick, and three Mahogany Slabs. A simpler 
Drying Rack can be made with one 
String, two Sticks, and one 
Willow Slab.
Early Crafting Essentials
The standard crafting table has 125 recipes. Several are central to starting out.
The Book of Colors is crafted from four dyes of any color, two 
Leather, one Belladonna Berry, one 
Book, and one Candle. The Book of Shadows requires two Leather, one Candle, one Book, and 
Sage Seeds.
For mobility, the 
Broom Whistle is made from a 
Stone Button, three Mahogany Planks, and one 
Bamboo. The 
Dowsing Rod uses five Sticks and one Mahogany Leaf.
You can turn 
Dried Sage and a 
Painting into 
Canvas, and 
Infused Fabric can be converted into 
Cloth. A 
Paper and an 
Ink Sac make a 
Courier Letter, while four Paper and one Willow Slab make a Courier Package.
Drying Rack Recipes
The Drying Rack has 13 recipes. It is used to dry herbs and other materials.
Place a 
Wet Broom Brush on it to get a dry 
Broom Brush. Flowers such as Belladonna, Mandrake, Mugwort, and Yellow Dock can be dried into their dried versions. Leaves from Mugwort and Yellow Dock also dry here. 
Sage becomes Dried Sage, and a 
Sage Bundle becomes a 
Dried Sage Bundle.
Infused Fabric Blocks
Infused Fabric can be shaped into blocks and carpets. One 
Infused Fabric Block can be converted into itself, or two blocks can be turned into three 
Infused Fabric Carpets. A single Infused Fabric Carpet can also be converted back into another Infused Fabric Carpet, allowing for flexible storage and decoration.
Start with gathering Mahogany and Willow, build your drying rack, and use the woodcutting table to stretch your resources. From there, the altar and books will open up further progression.
