Horse Expert: One Item for Reading Horse Stats
Horse Expert exposes the hidden statistics of horses. This guide covers what it adds.
A single item
1 page, 1 item, 1 crafting recipe, identical on both builds, with no blocks and no structures.
That is the entire registry. The mod's value is entirely in information rather than in content.
The problem it solves
Vanilla horses have hidden speed, jump and health values that vary between individuals and are invisible in game. Breeding for a good horse without them is guesswork — you cannot tell whether a foal improved on its parents except by riding it.
One item that displays those numbers turns breeding from trial and error into something you can actually plan.
Why the registry is one entry
There is nothing to unlock, no tier and no station. The mod adds a lens, not a system, so its footprint is a single craftable item and nothing else.
Version numbering
v21.1.0 on NeoForge for 1.21.1 and v8.1.1 on Forge for 1.20.1. The version schemes differ between lines — the newer build encodes the Minecraft version in its number — so the large gap does not indicate a content difference. Both carry the same single recipe.
No dependency, no footprint
Nothing generates in the world, no partner mod is required, and nothing is placed. The mod can be added to or removed from a save at any time with no consequences.
Where to start
Craft it before you start breeding rather than after. The whole point is to make selection decisions with information, and a horse you have already bred and released is one you can no longer evaluate.
What to expect
A utility item with no progression attached. Its usefulness is concentrated entirely in the period when you are actively breeding horses, and near zero outside it — which is a fair trade for a one-item mod.
Where it sits against other utility mods
This wiki covers several one-item utility mods from this batch — Akashic Tome, XP Tome, Bartering Station. All share the same shape: a single recipe, no blocks or one block, no worldgen, no dependency.
They are worth judging as a group rather than individually. Each closes one specific gap in vanilla, none competes with anything, and their combined footprint in a pack is negligible.
Scale
1 page, 1 item, 0 blocks, 0 structures, 1 crafting recipe. Versions v21.1.0 (NeoForge, 1.21.1) and v8.1.1 (Forge, 1.20.1), identical in content.
