Editing Block and Item NBT Data with IBE Editor

guide

IBE Editor lets you change the NBT data attached to blocks and items, resolve validation problems, and then either commit your edits or throw them away. Everything happens through the mod's own interface and hotkeys rather than through crafting or commands.

Opening the Editor and Switching Modes

The mod includes a dedicated NBT editing screen. If you are in another part of the interface and need to reach it, use switch nbt editor to move over to the NBT Editor. This is the working area where block and item data is displayed and modified.

What You Can Edit

The editor exposes several categories of data, depending on what you have targeted:

  • Attribute Modifiers for adjusting the attributes applied by an item.
  • Enchanted Book enchantments, listed under the 3 entry.
  • Written Book author information and whether the book is treated as an "original" or a "copy", listed under the 4 entry.
  • Effect details including Amplifier (where 0 equals level 1, and so on), Duration measured in ticks, and Ambient, which makes the particle effects more transparent.

Fixing Validation Errors

The editor checks your input before it will accept it. If something is wrong, you must correct the errors before applying changes. The interface reports specific problems so you know what to address:

  • error permission denied means you lack the permission needed to update that particular data.
  • error server mod means the update requires IBE Editor to also be present on the server.
  • error generic indicates something unexpected happened; the logs hold more detail, and the issue should be reported to the mod author.
  • no target found means there is no editable object under your cursor or selection.
  • no block data means the targeted block has no NBT data to edit.

Work through whichever message appears, adjust the values, and try again. Applying is blocked until the errors are cleared.

Applying, Saving, and Discarding

Once your edits pass validation, you can commit them. A confirmation message, saved vault, tells you the data was stored in the Vault. If the data was already stored there, you will instead see not saved vault.

If you decide not to keep your work, use Close without saving to exit and leave the original data untouched. There is also a Remove Custom Color action for clearing a custom color you have set.

Copying Commands and Giving Vault Items

The editor can produce a command for you: Copy command to clipboard places it on your clipboard, and the confirmation copied clipboard appears when that succeeds. When a Vault item is handed over, the message vault item give success confirms it.

Other Settings and Notices

A few additional controls round out the interface:

  • Selection screen max items controls how many entries the selection screen displays.
  • Reload configuration from disk refreshes the configuration.
  • Scroll to move focus to an element, and press the same control again to cancel the action.
  • Some parts of the Editor are not implemented yet and are planned for a future release.

For actions that rely on a hotkey, use the corresponding hotkey and set it in the controls menu if you want to change it.
