Crafting and Using Icarus’ Unique Wings
Overview
Special unique wings in the Icarus mod offer powerful effects and require rare materials to craft. Unlike standard wings, these items are built from a combination of an
Elytra,
Nether Stars, and
Honeycomb, plus a third material component that defines their distinct ability. This guide covers the three available unique wings, their exact recipes, and what makes each one worth the investment.
Common Crafting Materials
All three unique wings share the same base structure. To craft any of them, you will need:
Honeycomb x3
Nether Star x2
Elytra x1- A specific third material (listed below for each wing)
The
Nether Star is the primary gatekeeper, as it only drops from the Wither. The
Honeycomb can be harvested from bee nests and hives. The
Elytra is found in End ships. Gather these first, then focus on the unique material for the wing you want.
Discord’s Wings
Recipe: Honeycomb x3 + Nether Star x2 + Elytra + #icarus:leathers + Feather
This wing requires any item from the #icarus:leathers tag (such as leather) and one
Feather. The combination of leather and feather suggests a lightweight, flexible design. Discord’s Wings are the only unique wing that uses a feather, making it distinct in its material profile. If you have spare leather from cows and feathers from chickens, this is a relatively accessible unique wing once you have the Nether Stars.
Flandre’s Wings
Recipe: Honeycomb x3 + Nether Star x2 + Elytra + #c:gems/diamond + #c:gems/emerald
This wing demands both a
Diamond and an
Emerald as its unique components. The #c:gems/diamond tag includes diamonds, and #c:gems/emerald includes emeralds. You will need one of each. Diamonds require deep mining, while emeralds are typically obtained through trading with villagers or mining in extreme hills biomes. Flandre’s Wings are the only unique wing that uses two different gem types, making them the most material-intensive to craft.
Zanza’s Wings
Recipe: Honeycomb x3 + Nether Star x2 + Elytra + #c:dusts/glowstone x2
Zanza’s Wings require two
Glowstone Dust items (from the #c:dusts/glowstone tag). Glowstone is found in the Nether, usually on the underside of ceilings. Because you need two dust, you will need to break at least one glowstone cluster. This is the only unique wing that uses a dust material, and it is the easiest of the three to obtain the unique component for, since glowstone is relatively common in the Nether.
General Crafting Notes
All three recipes are shaped crafting recipes, meaning the placement of items in the crafting grid matters. You cannot simply throw the materials into a crafting table randomly. Arrange them according to the pattern shown in the recipe. The
Elytra is the central item in all three recipes, with the
Honeycomb and
Nether Star surrounding it. The unique material (leather/feather, diamond/emerald, or glowstone dust) fills the remaining slots.
Which Wing Should You Choose?
Your choice depends on your available resources and playstyle:
- Choose
Discord’s Wings if you have surplus leather and feathers from farming animals and chickens. - Choose
Flandre’s Wings if you have both diamonds and emeralds and want the most prestigious material combination. - Choose
Zanza’s Wings if you have easy access to the Nether and want the simplest unique material to collect.
Remember that all three require two
Nether Stars, so defeating the Wither twice is mandatory regardless of your choice. Plan your Wither fights carefully, as this is the most dangerous and time-consuming part of crafting any unique wing. Once you have the materials, the crafting process itself is straightforward, but the payoff is a powerful wing that stands apart from ordinary Elytra.
