Getting Started with Icarus Wings and Your First Flight
Introduction
This guide introduces the Icarus mod’s wing system, covering basic crafting recipes and the steps to take your first flight. Wings in Icarus are wearable items that let you glide and soar, and they come in many styles and colors. To begin, you will need an 
Elytra, which serves as the base component for almost every wing recipe.
Basic Wing Types and Materials
There are several families of wings, each with its own crafting ingredients:
- Dragon Wings: Made from an Elytra,
Honeycomb, and 
Dragon's Breath. - Feathered Wings: Made from an Elytra, Honeycomb, and
Feathers. - Light Wings: Crafted with an Elytra, Honeycomb, and other light materials.
- Mechanical Feathered Wings: Require an Elytra, Honeycomb,
Iron Ingots, and Feathers. - Mechanical Leather Wings: Built from an Elytra, Honeycomb, Iron Ingots, and
Leather.
All of these recipes are shaped, meaning the ingredients must be placed in a specific pattern in the crafting grid. The mod also includes special unique wings, such as 
Discord's Wings and 
Flandre's Wings, which use rarer materials like 
Nether Stars and gem combinations.
Crafting Your First Wings
The simplest starting point is the 
White Feathered Wings. To craft them, arrange:
- 3 Honeycomb
- 4 Feathers
- 1 Elytra
Place the Elytra in the center, with the Honeycomb and Feathers arranged around it in a shaped pattern. This will give you a basic set of white wings that are ready for flight.
If you prefer a mechanical look, try the 
White Mechanical Feathered Wings. The recipe calls for:
- 3 Honeycomb
- 2 Iron Ingots
- 2 Feathers
- 1 Elytra
Similarly, 
White Mechanical Leather Wings use Leather instead of Feathers, keeping the same structural layout.
Dyeing Wings
All white wing types can be recolored using standard Minecraft dyes. The dyeing recipe is shapeless, so you can combine a white wing with any dye in any arrangement. For example:
- White Feathered Wings + black dye →
Black Feathered Wings 
White Dragon Wings + blue dye → 
Blue Dragon Wings
White Light Wings + brown dye →

The same applies to all other colors, including red, green, yellow, and purple. You can also re-dye a colored wing back to white by combining it with white dye.
Special Wings
Two notable unique wings exist:
- Discord's Wings: Crafted with 3 Honeycomb, 2 Nether Stars, 1 Elytra, any leather from the `#icarus:leathers` tag, and 1 Feather.
- Flandre's Wings: Crafted with 3 Honeycomb, 2 Nether Stars, 1 Elytra, 1
Diamond, and 1 
Emerald.
These special wings have distinct appearances and are more expensive to make, so save them for late-game projects.
Taking Flight
Once you have crafted any wing type, equip it in your chest armor slot, just like an Elytra. To fly:
1. Find a high place, such as a cliff or tower. 2. Jump off and press the jump key again to begin gliding. 3. Use your movement keys to steer and adjust your angle.
Wings do not require fuel or charging; they work as long as they are equipped. However, be mindful of your altitude—unlike an Elytra, some wing types may have different glide characteristics, so practice in an open area first.
Final Tips
- Start with White Feathered Wings because Feathers and Honeycomb are easier to obtain early on.
- Dye your wings to match your armor or personal style—the process is cheap and reversible.
- Keep an Elytra spare if you want to try multiple wing types, since each recipe consumes one.
- Experiment with mechanical wings if you have spare Iron, as they offer a different visual style.
