Ice and Fire: Dragons, the Dragonforge and Three Structures

guide

Ice and Fire adds dragons, mythical creatures and the gear made from them. This guide covers how its content is reached and what its short recipe list implies.

Almost everything is ordinary crafting

The mod registers 383 crafting recipes against only four other categories: 16 smelting, 6 blasting, 5 stonecutting and 3 Dragonforge recipes.

That distribution is the point. Ice and Fire is not a tech mod — the difficulty is not building a machine chain, it is surviving long enough to gather the materials. Once you have dragon scales or bone, turning them into gear happens at a normal bench.

The Dragonforge is three recipes

Its only bespoke bench carries 3 recipes, and that is the entire specialised crafting surface. For a mod of 413 pages that is remarkably little, and it tells you where the value sits: the forge exists to make a small number of high-end pieces, not to process material in bulk.

Three structures, and two of them share a tier

These are dense enough to find while travelling normally. The mod's real content is not gated behind them: dragons generate in the world rather than inside a structure, so the temples and graveyard are side content rather than the main event.

Items over blocks, better than two to one

413 pages across 290 items and 123 blocks. The item-heavy split reflects a mod about equipment, drops and creatures rather than building.

This line is 1.20.1 only

The build is 2.1.13 for 1.20.1, a beta release, and there is no 1.21.1 build. A pack on the newer version cannot include it, which is worth knowing before planning around dragons.

Where to start

Do not go looking for the Dragonforge first — you cannot use it without materials that come from a dragon. The practical order is the reverse of most mods: survive an encounter, take what drops, and only then worry about the bench.

Scale

413 pages, 3 structures, 413 recipes across five categories on 2.1.13 for 1.20.1.
