First Steps Into Immersive Geology: Tools, Basics, and Mod Overview
Immersive Geology is a metal production mod built around lengthy processing chains rather than shortcuts. It is still being actively developed, so bugs are expected, and its design philosophy favors thorough industrial progression over simplified recipes.
What to Expect
This mod is not aimed at players who want quick, easy metal crafting. The production of metals is deliberately involved, with each step feeding into the next. Expect to work through multiple stages before reaching advanced materials.
Your First Tool
Begin by crafting a
Stone Work Hammer. Its recipe combines two cobblestone, one string, and two wooden rods. This tool serves several early purposes: it lets you shape the crude bloomery and alloy kiln, and it gives you a way to work with raw ore.
To extract useful metals from raw ore, you must crush it first. Doing this with a hammer is a rough method, and you will lose some material along the way.
Finding Minerals
The Geologist's Pick identifies any three minerals within a one chunk radius around you, listing them from most abundant to least. For early progress, Cuprite and Cassiterite are the most valuable finds, since they can be processed into Copper and Tin.
Moving to Bronze
Once you have gathered enough Copper and Tin to make Bronze, craft the
Bronze Work Hammer. This improves on the stone version. With it, you can form the Reverberation Furnace,
Blast Furnace, and Coke Oven. Reaching this point opens up LV and MV technology, a major step forward.
Aluminum and the Arc Furnace
If you are trying to craft Aluminum, you can start from Bauxite or Alumina. The final stage of that chain calls for an Arc Furnace, which you can get running using MV Power to process enough Aluminum to begin making HV components.
Other Crafting Notes
The mod includes a large set of crafting recipes. A few examples beyond the hammers include combining nine copper nuggets into a
Copper Ingot, turning nine gold nuggets into a
Gold Ingot, and mixing two clay balls with flint and two sand to produce four
Fire Clay Ball. Torches can be made from anthracite, bituminous, or lignite ore combined with a stick, yielding eight, four, or two torches respectively.
A Metal Detector can be crafted from three neodymium plates, two silicon ingots, an LV coil, and three steel ingots. A
Stainless Steel Work Hammer uses two stainless steel ingots, one string, and two stainless steel rods.
Blueprint recipes include converting storage electrum into four high voltage energy pipe cables, and turning copper ingots into a tungsten mechanical component. Smelting recipes cover copper dust, gold dust, and silver dust into their respective ingots, fire clay balls into
Refractory Brick, and zinc crystals into zinc ingots.
A Note on Development
Because the mod is under active development, you may encounter bugs during play. A Frequent Issues Q&A exists to help with common problems.
