Inventory Essentials Overview: Settings and Controls

guide

Inventory Essentials is a Minecraft utility mod that changes how you move items between inventories, adding bulk transfer, quick refill, and configurable click behaviours. Everything is handled through the mod's own settings screen and its key bindings rather than through any crafting recipe or in-game item.

Accessing Settings and Controls

The mod's options live in its own settings entry, labelled inventoryessentials (Inventory Essentials). Open that entry to reach the feature toggles described below.

Its key bindings appear in the standard controls menu alongside your other bindings. Each action below is triggered by the corresponding hotkey, which you assign yourself in that controls menu. No key is fixed by the mod, so pick bindings that don't clash with what you already use.

Transfer Controls

These are hold-style actions: you hold the bound key while clicking or hovering.

  • Transfer one (Hold) — moves a single item instead of a whole stack.
  • Transfer all of type (Hold) — moves every item matching the type you clicked.
  • Transfer all (Hold) — moves everything out of the inventory you clicked.
  • Bulk Drop (Hold) — drops all items of the clicked type at once.
  • Bulk Drop out of Screen (Hold) — drops items beyond the visible inventory area.
  • Transfer on Hover (Hold) — quick-transfers items as your cursor passes over them, so you don't have to click each one.
  • Enable Shift Drag — turns on shift-drag behaviour for moving items.
  • Middle-click sorting — a setting that decides how middle-click inventory sorting behaves.

Feature Settings

Each setting below is a toggle with a short description of what it changes.

  • Bulk Transfer — governs whether holding shift and control while clicking moves every item of the same type in one go.
  • Bulk Transfer (All) — governs whether a space-click on an item moves the entire contents of that inventory at once.
  • Bulk Transfer (One of Each) — governs whether a control-space-click moves one of every item from that inventory at once.
  • Bulk Transfer Armor Sets — governs whether space-clicking armor in your inventory swaps to all matching armor pieces.
  • Allow Transfer All on Empty Slot — decides whether Transfer All still moves everything when you clicked an empty slot.
  • Enable Single Transfer — decides whether a control-click moves only one item rather than the full stack.
  • Enable Tool Refill — decides whether broken tools are automatically replaced from your inventory.
  • Enable Stack Refill — decides whether depleted block stacks are automatically replaced from your inventory.
  • Bulk Drop of a Type — governs whether a shift-control-drop-click drops all items of the same type at once.
  • Force Client Implementation — a developer-only option that makes the client-side implementation run even on servers that already have the mod. It exists purely for development purposes and is not useful for normal play.

How the Pieces Fit Together

The click-based behaviours and the hold-based controls overlap in purpose, so it helps to think of them in two groups. The hold controls are bound keys you press and keep down while you click or hover; the feature settings decide what certain click combinations do when those settings are enabled. If a click combination isn't behaving as you expect, check the matching toggle first, then confirm the relevant hold control is bound.

Because every action is assigned through the controls menu, two players can run very different setups from the same mod. Bind only the actions you actually use, and leave the rest unbound to keep your controls uncluttered. The settings screen is where you turn individual behaviours on or off; the controls menu is where you decide which keys drive them.
