Getting Started with Inventory Profiles Next: Settings and Interface Basics
Inventory Profiles Next is a client-side utility mod that adds inventory sorting, item moving, scrolling, and profile management tools to the game. This guide covers the basics of opening its settings, understanding the main interface, and using the core controls.
Opening Settings and Configuration
The mod’s main configuration screen is called Inventory Profiles Next v Settings. You can open it through the corresponding hotkey, which is named open config menu in the controls menu. When enabled via Enable Settings Button in Inventory, a small button also appears at the top left of the inventory screen to open the same settings page.
From the settings screen, you can access several useful actions:
- Open Config Folder — Opens the folder where rule files and other configuration data are stored.
- Reload Rule Files — Reloads all rules-v2.*.txt files from the config folder without restarting.
- Reload Custom Configs — Reloads the mod’s configurations; useful when testing new custom rules, but not recommended for regular use.
- Open GUI Editor — Shows the configuration screen for the mod’s GUI overlay, where you can adjust button placement and visibility.
Main Interface Buttons
When you open any container screen, the mod can add several buttons to the interface. These are controlled by the Enable Inventory Buttons setting. Each button can be shown or hidden individually:
- Sort — Sorts the inventory using the configured sort order.
- Sort In Columns — Sorts the inventory in vertical columns.
- Sort in Rows — Sorts the inventory in horizontal rows.
- Move All — Moves items between the player inventory and the opened container.
You can also enable Show 2 Sets of Sort Buttons to display sort controls on both the player inventory and the chest side. Show Button Tooltips controls whether explanatory tooltips appear when hovering over these buttons.
For each sort button, you can set a sort order, a post action, and a custom rule if the sort order is set to custom. The sort order options include Default (Creative Menu) and quantity-based methods like Item Count Descending or Item Count Ascending.
Understanding Sorting and Moving Modifiers
The mod uses modifier keys to change how sorting and moving behave. These are set in the Advanced Key Binding Settings section. When a modifier is held, it temporarily changes the action:
- Include Hotbar Modifier — Include the hotbar in the operation. If Always Include Hotbar is enabled, holding this key instead excludes the hotbar.
- Move All Modifier — Move all items rather than matching ones. If Always Move All is enabled, holding this key switches to moving matching items only.
- Move Matching Items — Move only items of the same type as the stack under the cursor or held in the cursor. This will move all items of that type even if some are already present on the other side.
- Move Just Refill Modifier — When held during a move-all or move-matching operation, only existing stacks on the target side will be topped up.
Additional options include Always Include Hotbar, Always Move All, and Always Throw All, which change the default behavior so you do not need to hold a modifier for the expanded action.
Locked Slots
Locked slots prevent items from being affected by sorting, moving, throwing, and other automated operations. To configure them, hold the Config Key modifier (set in controls) and left-click a slot. Left-clicking again configures the slot, while right-clicking resets it to defaults.
Locked slots are immune to Shift+Click, Ctrl+Q, swipe Shift+Click, and swipe Ctrl+Q. You can also enable Lock Slots Disable User Interaction to prevent all manual input on locked slots until they are unlocked.
Several display options exist, including Show Locked Slots Background, Show Locked Slots Foreground, and Also Show Locked Slots in Hotbar. Colors for the background and hotbar highlight can be customized.
Scrolling Items
Item scrolling lets you transfer items between the player inventory and a container using scroll keys. The main actions are Scroll Items From Player to Chest and Scroll Items From Chest to Player. By default, one item is moved per action. Holding the Scroll The Whole Stack modifier moves entire stacks instead.
The Scroll Direction Absolute setting changes behavior: when true, scrolling up always moves items from player to chest, and scrolling down always moves from chest to player. When false, the direction depends on which inventory is under the cursor.
Other scrolling options include Temporary Disable Scrolling, which disables the feature while held, and Disable for Non Empty Bundles, which prevents scrolling from moving bundles that contain items.
