Sorting, Moving, and Scrolling Items with Inventory Profiles Next
Inventory Profiles Next (IPN) provides a set of tools for managing items in your inventory and any open container. This guide covers the sorting, moving, and scrolling actions, plus the hotkeys and modifiers that control them.
Enabling the Core Features
Before using any of these actions, make sure the relevant features are turned on. In the mod’s settings screen, locate Enable Item Sorting and Moving. This toggle controls all sorting and movement enhancements. A separate option, Enable Item Scrolling, must be active for any scroll-based item transfer to work.
Sorting Your Inventory
You can sort the contents of the player inventory or an open chest. The main action is Sort Inventory. There are also two specialized variants: Sort Inventory In Columns and Sort Inventory In Rows. These arrange items in a vertical or horizontal pattern rather than the default layout.
The sort order is determined by the Sort Order setting. You can choose from several methods, including a Custom Rule that you define yourself. If you use the “Creative Menu” order, note that there are two interpretations available: one that mimics the search tab and another that follows a Category Priority List you can rearrange. A convenience option, Category Original Order, shows the default list so you can copy and modify it.
When sorting, you can hold a modifier key to include the hotbar in the operation. The Always Include Hotbar setting reverses this behavior: the hotbar is included by default, and holding the modifier excludes it.
Two related settings affect how sorting behaves. Restock Hotbar When Sorting refills empty hotbar slots during the sort. Sort Under the Cursor changes the action so that only the slots beneath your mouse pointer are sorted, instead of the entire container.
Moving Items Between Containers
The Move All Items action transfers items from one inventory to another. By default, it moves everything from the player inventory to the open container. If you enable Move All Under the Cursor, the action instead moves items from the slots under your cursor.
Several modifier keys change what gets moved:
- Hold the Move All Modifier to move everything.
- Hold the Only Focused Item Type key to move only items matching the type under your cursor or held in your cursor. This moves all such items, even if some already exist on the destination side.
- Hold the Just Refill Stacks key to only top up existing stacks on the target, without adding new item types.
The Always Move All setting makes “move all” the default behavior. When this is on, holding the modifier key switches to moving only matching items.
The Throw All Items action works similarly but drops items instead of transferring them. The same modifiers apply, and the Always Throw All setting reverses the default and modifier behavior.
Scrolling Items
Scrolling lets you transfer items one at a time by using the scroll wheel. The Scroll Items From Player to Chest action sends an item from the player inventory to an open chest. Scroll Items From Chest to Player does the opposite.
The Scroll Direction Absolute setting changes how the wheel direction is interpreted. When true, scrolling up always moves items from player to chest, and scrolling down always moves from chest to player. When false, the direction depends on which inventory your cursor is over.
Several modifier keys alter the scroll behavior:
- Hold the Scroll The Whole Stack key to move an entire stack instead of a single item.
- Hold the Scroll Spread key to distribute items evenly across all free slots on the destination.
- Hold the Scroll Throw key to drop items from both inventories, ignoring direction.
- Hold the Leave One Item key to keep one item from the source stack in its original slot.
There is also a Temporary Disable Scrolling key that pauses scrolling while held. For cursor-held items, Auto Refill Cursor will automatically pick up a new stack when the current one runs out.
Locked Slots
Locked slots are ignored by sorting, moving, throwing, and other automated actions. You can lock a slot by holding the Config Key (by default Alt) and left-clicking the slot. The Config Lock Slots action performs this without needing the modifier. You can also set the switch type to toggle or hold.
Locked slots are protected from Shift+Click, Ctrl+Q, and swipe variants of those actions. The Lock Slots Disable User Interaction option goes further and blocks all manual input on locked slots. If you want to temporarily disable locking, hold the Quick Disable key.
Additional Notes
- The Add Interval Between Clicks option inserts a delay between actions, which can help on servers that reject rapid clicks. The delay is set in milliseconds.
- Stop Sorting If Screen Closes controls whether a long sort continues after you close the inventory screen.
- Ignore Item Durability affects Move Matching and Throw Matching, so items are matched by type regardless of their remaining durability.
