Customizing the Potion HUD in InventoryHUD+ (Transparency, Mini Mode, Spacing, and Levels)

guide

InventoryHUD+ puts your status effects on screen while you play, and its Potion HUD section gives you direct control over how that list looks and behaves. Everything here is handled through the mod's settings screen and its hotkeys, not through crafting or items.

Opening the settings

The mod's configuration lives in the Inventory HUD+ Settings screen. From there you reach the Potion HUD options group, which holds every control described below. If you only want to flip the potion display on or off without opening the screen, use the Toggle PotionHUD on/off action bound to the corresponding hotkey (set it in the controls menu). A broader action, Toggle all HUDs on/off, switches every HUD the mod draws at the same time, and there is a separate Toggle ArmorHUD on/off action as well.

Transparency

The Potion HUD has its own background transparency slider. It runs from 0 to 100, so you can make the panel behind your effect icons fully solid, partly see-through, or effectively invisible while the icons themselves stay readable. This is independent of the general Inventory HUD background transparency setting, which uses the same 0-to-100 range but applies to the inventory display rather than the potion list.

Mini mode

Turning on Potion HUD mini mode shrinks the effect display into a more compact form. One setting exists specifically for this mode: the duration in seconds that corresponds to a full bar. That value decides how much time a completely filled bar represents, so shorter effects and longer effects scale against the same reference.

Icon spacing

A dedicated gap setting controls the distance between effect icons. Its range is -5 to 5, which means you can pull the icons closer together, including letting them overlap slightly at negative values, or spread them apart for a looser layout.

Hidden effects and their icons

Two related options let you manage effects you would rather not see listed. One is a list of effects whose icons are disabled, and the other controls whether icons are shown for hidden effects. Together they let you keep certain effects out of the visible list while deciding whether those same effects still get an icon drawn.

Level display

By default, an effect whose level goes above nine is represented with an infinity symbol rather than a number. A setting changes this: when set to true, the Potion HUD prints every level as an actual number instead of substituting the infinity symbol for the high ones. This is useful when you want exact level information at a glance.

Other Potion HUD behaviour

The Potion HUD can also be configured to remain visible when the debug GUI is on, using its own debug-visibility option; the Inventory HUD and Armor HUD have equivalent options if you want all three to keep drawing in that state. Note that the Inventory HUD side of the mod also offers a horizontal mode toggle, but that switch belongs to the inventory display, not the potion list.

Quick reference

  • Toggle PotionHUD on/off — show or hide the effect list; bind it to the corresponding hotkey (set it in the controls menu).
  • Potion HUD background transparency — 0 to 100.
  • Potion HUD mini mode — compact display; pair it with the full-bar duration setting.
  • Gap between effect icons — -5 to 5.
  • Show icons for hidden effects plus the disabled-icon effect list — control what appears.
  • All levels as numbers — replaces the infinity symbol for effects above level nine.
