Item Scroller Guide: Inventory Sorting, Villager Trade Favorites, and Scroll Memory

guide

Item Scroller lets you move items, sort inventories, and manage villager trades using your mouse wheel, drag actions, and configurable hotkeys instead of manual clicking. This guide covers quick inventory sorting, villager trade favoriting and quick trading, and scroll position memory.

Quick Inventory Sorting

The sortInventoryToggle option turns on the Quick Inventory Sorting feature. To use it, hover your cursor over any item and press the key bound to sortInventory. That key sorts whichever inventory your cursor is hovering over.

Several settings control how sorting behaves:

  • sortMethodDefault sets the comparison method. With Category set to [ANY], items are grouped by sortCategoryOrder first, then by item name, stack size, rarity, or raw ID depending on the method chosen. Data components are compared by hash code, and stack size is the final tiebreaker.
  • sortCategoryOrder defines the category order, using the same categories as the Vanilla Creative Menu.
  • sortTopPriorityInventory and sortBottomPriorityInventory let you list items that should sort to the front or back. You can enter item IDs or custom names; custom names take precedence over IDs.
  • sortShulkerBoxesAtEnd and sortShulkerBoxesInverted control where shulker boxes land and whether the emptiest or fullest come first.
  • sortBundlesAtEnd and sortBundlesInverted do the same for bundles.
  • sortAssumeEmptyBoxStacks treats empty shulker boxes as stackable, which helps if you run mods that allow that. It sends an extra packet to keep the inventory synced.

Scrolling and Dragging Items

Scrolling over a stack moves items, and several options shape that behavior. enableScrollingSingle moves one item at a time, while enableScrollingStacks moves whole stacks. reverseScrollDirectionSingle and reverseScrollDirectionStacks flip the direction for each mode. useSlotPositionAwareScrollDirection makes direction depend on a slot's vertical screen position, though it may behave oddly in complex inventories.

Holding the modifierMoveEverything key while scrolling moves all items at once, and holding modifierMoveMatching moves all matching stacks. modifierMoveStack moves just the stack under your cursor. A fallback mode exists for scrolling entire stacks in places where shift-clicking doesn't work, such as a vanilla crafting table.

Drag actions use their own keys: keyDragMoveOne, keyDragMoveStacks, keyDragMoveMatching, keyDragMoveLeaveOne, and their drop equivalents keyDragDropSingle, keyDragDropStacks, keyDragDropLeaveOne. There are also up and down movement keys, such as wsMoveUpStacks, wsMoveDownMatching, and wsMoveUpLeaveOne.

Other toggles include enableShiftDropItems for dropping all matching items by shift-clicking a stack, enableShiftPlaceItems for moving all matching stacks when placing into an empty slot, and enableDropkeyDropMatching for dropping matching items with a hotkey.

Villager Trade Favoriting and Quick Trading

enableVillagerTradeFeatures turns on trade favoriting and quick trade options. With it active, middle-clicking a trade marks it as a favorite, and right-clicking the trade list fully trades that single trade.

Holding modifierToggleVillagerGlobalFavorite while middle-clicking a trade toggles its global favorite state. Global favorites apply to villagers that have no villager-specific favorites set. The villagerTradeUseGlobalFavorites option decides whether these per-item-type favorites are used.

The villagerTradeFavorites action trades everything possible across all favorited trades of the current villager.

Separately, enableScrollingVillager adds handling for Villager GUIs, where shift-clicking normally doesn't work. Hold shift and scroll over the trade output slot to use it. This scrolling behavior is independent of enableVillagerTradeFeatures.

Scroll Position Memory

The villagerTradeListRememberScrollPosition option remembers where you last scrolled in the trade list and restores that position when you reopen the GUI.

General Notes

modMainToggle disables all mod functionality, and toggleModOnOff switches it on or off. The openConfigGui action opens the in-game config screen, and recipeView shows the recipe GUI. Assign any hotkeys mentioned above in the controls menu.
