Configuring Auto-Bypass for Held Items, Offhand Swapping, and All Items in ItemLocks
ItemLocks lets you lock items so they can't be moved or dropped by accident, and its auto-bypass settings control when those locks step aside automatically. This guide covers the three auto-bypass options — held items, offhand swapping, and all items except the drop key — plus the controls and version feedback settings that surround them.
How Locks and Bypass Work Together
A locked item is protected from normal inventory actions. Bypass is the temporary override: while it is active, locked items behave as if they were unlocked, so you can move or swap them freely. You can trigger bypass manually by holding the Bypass Locks control, and you can also let the mod apply bypass automatically in specific situations through the auto-bypass settings. Locking itself is done by holding the Toggle Lock control.
Both of these are hold actions, so they only apply while the control is held down. Neither has a fixed key printed here — assign each one through the corresponding hotkey (set it in the controls menu) so it fits your own layout.
Auto-Bypass Held Items
The Auto-Bypass held items setting changes how locks behave while you are holding an item inside an inventory screen. When this option is on, an item held in an inventory always bypasses locks. That means you can pick up a locked item and place it somewhere else without first triggering bypass yourself. Turn this on if you frequently rearrange locked gear and find the manual bypass step repetitive.
Auto-Bypass Offhand Swapping
The Auto-Bypass offhand swapping setting covers the swap action between your main hand and your offhand. When it is on, swapping items with the offhand always bypasses locks. This is useful when a locked item sits in your offhand or main hand and you want the swap to go through without the lock blocking it. Leave it off if you want offhand swaps to respect locks and require a deliberate bypass.
Auto-Bypass All Items
The Auto-Bypass all items setting is the broadest of the three. When it is on, bypass is always active except when you drop items with the drop key. In practice this means locks stop interfering with nearly every inventory action, but the drop key still respects them — so a locked item cannot be thrown out of your inventory by mistake. Enable this when you want locks to act mainly as drop protection rather than as full movement protection.
Because these three options overlap, decide what you actually want locks to prevent. If your only concern is accidental drops, Auto-Bypass all items alone covers it. If you want locks to block most actions but not get in the way of held-item movement or offhand swaps, enable the two narrower options instead.
Controls and Hotbar Display
Two hold controls drive the mod: Toggle Lock and Bypass Locks. Use the first to lock or unlock an item, and hold the second whenever you want a manual bypass window. If a key binding problem is detected, the mod can reset a control to its default to prevent a crash — the messages cover the lock toggle key, the lock bypass key, and the show options key. If you see one of these notices, recheck your bindings afterward.
There is also a display behavior worth knowing: when the relevant setting is disabled, locks won't show up on the hotbar. If you rely on seeing which hotbar slots are locked, make sure that display is left enabled.
Version Notifications
The versions group controls feedback about version changes. The Enable notifications option allows the mod to give feedback depending on version changes. Within it, Enable chat notification sends version feedback into chat when you join a world or server, and Enable hud indicator shows version feedback in the game UI. Turn on whichever channel you prefer, or both if you want the information in chat and on screen.
Key Binding Error Messages
The comment entry relates to key binding error messages. It works alongside the reset notices described above: when a binding problem is found, the mod reports it and restores the affected control to its default so the game does not crash. Treat these messages as a prompt to revisit the corresponding hotkey (set it in the controls menu) and confirm it is bound to something you want.
