ItemLocks Controls: Locking Items, Bypassing Locks, and Opening Options
ItemLocks is controlled through two hold-style hotkeys and an options screen, with no crafting or item recipes involved.
Locking and Bypassing
The mod provides two hold actions: Toggle Lock (Hold) and Bypass Locks (Hold). Both are hold-type controls, meaning you keep the key pressed while performing the action rather than tapping it once. To use either one, assign it in the controls menu — the mod does not advertise a fixed default key for these actions, so set your own binding there.
Toggle Lock (Hold) is the action you hold when you want to lock an item. Bypass Locks (Hold) is the action you hold when you want to temporarily ignore existing locks and interact with an item anyway.
Opening the Options Screen
There is a separate action for opening the ItemLocks options screen. As with the two hold controls above, no specific key is given for it, so bind it yourself in the controls menu. Once bound, pressing that key opens the screen where the settings below live.
Key Binding Safety
If a lock toggle key, lock bypass key, or show options key ends up in a bad state, ItemLocks protects you by resetting it. The mod reports this with one of three messages:
- The lock toggle key was returned to its default to avoid a crash.
- The lock bypass key was returned to its default to avoid a crash.
- The show options key was returned to its default to avoid a crash.
If you see one of these, the affected binding has been restored automatically, and you can rebind it afterwards.
Version Notifications
The versions feature controls version-related feedback. Its master switch is Version Notifications. When that is on, the mod can respond to version changes. Several sub-options decide where that feedback appears:
- Enable notifications — the general notification toggle for version feedback.
- Enable chat notification — when on, version feedback is written into chat as you enter a world or a server.
- Enable hud indicator — when on, version feedback is displayed in the game's UI overlay.
Auto-Bypass Settings
Three settings make bypassing automatic in specific situations, so you do not have to hold the bypass action:
- Auto-Bypass held items — when on, an item you are holding while inside an inventory always bypasses locks.
- Auto-Bypass offhand swapping — when on, moving items to or from your offhand always bypasses locks.
- Auto-Bypass all items — when on, bypass stays active at all times, with one exception: dropping items with the drop key still does not bypass.
Hotbar Display
One setting governs whether locks appear on your hotbar. When it is turned off, locked items no longer show lock indicators there.
Other Settings
The comment feature covers key binding error messages — the feedback shown when a binding runs into a problem, such as the automatic resets described above.
Quick Reference
- Hold the Toggle Lock (Hold) action to lock an item.
- Hold the Bypass Locks (Hold) action to override locks temporarily.
- Use the options-screen action to reach the settings.
- Bind all three actions yourself in the controls menu; no default keys are stated here.
- Turn on Auto-Bypass held items, Auto-Bypass offhand swapping, or Auto-Bypass all items to skip holding bypass in those cases.
- Use the versions options to choose chat, HUD, or neither for version feedback.
