Finding the Monastery, Vampire Lair, and Key JCRAFT Crafting Materials

guide

Locating the Monastery and Vampire Lair

Two major structures generate in the world for this mod: the Monastery and the Vampire Lair. Both are rare and require dedicated searching, as they do not spawn in every area.

Each structure type has a specific placement rule. The game makes one attempt to generate the structure within every 48x48 chunk region. Additionally, any two instances of the same structure must be at least 12 chunks apart. This means you will not find them clustered together, and you may need to travel across many regions before you spot one.

Because the generation attempts are tied to chunk regions, your best strategy is to explore systematically. Move in a straight line for a long distance, then sweep sideways to cover a new band of territory. Keep an eye on your map or the terrain for unusual formations. The Monastery and the Vampire Lair are distinct landmarks, but they are not guaranteed to appear in every biome or direction you travel.

Crafting the Coffin

The Coffin is a central item for vampire-related content. To craft one, you need a Red Bed and five Oak Slabs.

  • Place the Red Bed in the center of the crafting grid.
  • Surround it with the Oak Slabs in the top, bottom, left, and right slots, plus one in the center of the top row.

The exact pattern is a shaped recipe, so the Red Bed must be in the middle slot, with the Oak Slabs filling the remaining positions in a plus-shape around it. This produces a single Coffin.

Crafting Hot Sand

Hot Sand is a material you will need for certain recipes or effects. It is made with a Magma Block and eight Sand.

  • Place the Magma Block in the center of the crafting grid.
  • Fill all eight surrounding slots with Sand.

This shaped recipe consumes all eight Sand and the one Magma Block to yield a single Hot Sand block. Stock up on regular sand before attempting this, as it is a one-to-one conversion in terms of the output.

Crafting Knives and Knife Bundles

Knives are basic throwing or melee weapons. The recipe is simple and uses common materials:

  • 1 Iron Nugget
  • 1 Iron Ingot
  • 1 Stick

Arrange these in a vertical line in the crafting grid. The Iron Nugget goes in the top slot, the Iron Ingot in the middle, and the Stick at the bottom. This produces one Knife.

Once you have nine Knives, you can combine them into a Knife Bundle. This is a shapeless recipe, meaning the order and position of the items in the crafting grid do not matter. Simply place all nine Knives anywhere in the grid, and the result will be one Knife Bundle. This is useful for saving inventory space, as carrying nine individual knives takes up more room than a single bundle.

Practical Gathering Tips

Before heading out to find the Monastery or Vampire Lair, prepare your inventory. You will need to collect Sand and Magma Blocks for Hot Sand, as well as wood for Oak Slabs and iron for Knives. The Red Bed is also required for the Coffin, so you may want to craft or find one in advance.

Since the structures are spaced far apart, bring food, tools, and torches for a long expedition. Mark your path with blocks or a compass so you do not get lost while searching. Once you locate either structure, be ready for hostile encounters, as both the Monastery and the Vampire Lair are dangerous locations.
