Shaping Your JourneyMap Minimap: Position, Presets, Info Slots, and Effect Icons
Minimap Placement and Size
To reposition the minimap on your screen, open the Minimap Position Options. You can select a standard corner or edge location: bottom left, bottom right, top left, top right, top center, or screen center. For finer control, choose the custom location option and adjust the Minimap Custom Location X and Minimap Custom Location Y values. These are percentage-based, so a value of 50 places the map at the horizontal or vertical midpoint.
If you prefer dragging, enable the option that lets you move the minimap with your mouse. When moving it with arrow keys, the Minimap Key Move Pixel Offset setting determines how many pixels each key press shifts the map, allowing precise adjustments. A Drag Scale option exists for systems with display scaling, such as OSX retina displays; a higher number slows the drag response.
The Minimap Size setting adjusts the map as a percentage of your window size. Be aware that sizes over 768 pixels may reduce performance. You can also control opacity for the map itself, its frame, and its background using separate percentage sliders.
Shape, Rotation, and Appearance
The minimap can take one of several shapes: circle, square, horizontal rectangle, or vertical rectangle. Rotation options include a static north-up view, west-up, a rotating map where your icon always points up, and a "My Heading" mode that centers on your facing direction. Note that only the circle shape supports the "My Heading" rotation.
The Compass Font Scale changes the size of compass point labels on the frame. You can toggle whether compass points, a reticle (crosshairs), your location, biome, and current FPS are shown on the map. The reticle itself has a rotation setting and can be fixed in place or allowed to move.
Presets and Copying Options
JourneyMap provides two minimap presets, each with its own appearance configuration. You can switch between them in-game using the backslash key. The Minimap Preset Number Overlay setting shows or hides the number displayed when you change presets. A preview option lets you see a preset with current settings; deselect it or press ESC to stop previewing.
From the common options screen, you can copy the current settings to the fullscreen map, to Minimap Preset 1, or to Minimap Preset 2. This lets you establish a base look and then customize each preset individually.
Info Slots
Four info slots are available, each with its own content and position. For each slot, you choose what information is displayed and where it sits relative to the minimap (top or bottom). Available data includes your coordinates, system time, game time (with or without the 6-hour midnight offset), current dimension, light level at your feet, moon phase, region coordinates, day of the month, FPS, and movement speed in blocks per second.
Each slot has a Font Scale for text size. The Info Slot Background Opacity adjusts the transparency of the background behind the text. You can also set separate formats for system time and game time.
Effect Icon Management
Options for potion effect icons are found in the same positioning menu. You can hide effect icons entirely, anchor them to the minimap, or detach them so they move independently. Vertical Effect Icon Rendering stacks icons top to bottom; Reverse Effect Icon Rendering changes the direction (bottom to top for vertical, right to left for horizontal). When effect icons are not anchored, you can drag them to a new location on screen.
HUD Layering
The minimap's draw order relative to other HUD elements is configurable. You can render it before or after status effect icons, before or after the scoreboard sidebar, before all other HUD elements, or after all others (the default). This helps avoid overlap with mods that add their own HUD components.
Final Adjustments
After changing appearance options, the game may prompt that the UI theme has been applied and remind you to visit Options > MiniMap Preset # for further customization. Use the preview function to check your work before closing the settings screen.
