Managing Waypoints, Beacons, and Teleporting in JourneyMap

guide

Waypoint Basics

Waypoints are your custom markers for specific locations. You can create them from the fullscreen map by double-clicking a spot, or by using the action that creates a waypoint at your cursor position. A single click opens the waypoint editor for an existing marker, while holding a modifier key lets you change it. The fullscreen map also supports a control-click to view a waypoint’s details.

The waypoint editor lets you set coordinates, choose an icon, and pick colors for the icon, beacon, and label. You can sync the Y value to the cached surface height if that chunk is known. Coordinate input can be formatted as separate fields or as one comma-separated string for easy pasting from outside sources.

Groups and Visibility

Waypoints are organized into groups. Each group can have its own color, icon, and beacon settings. You can force all waypoints in a group to use the group’s appearance or visibility settings. Groups can be locked so their name cannot be changed, and you can set a tag that prefixes every waypoint name in that group. A default group can be chosen for new waypoints.

You can enable or disable individual waypoints, entire groups, or all waypoints at once. There are separate toggles for rendering waypoints on maps versus in the world. Waypoint labels can be shown or hidden, and you can control whether labels appear only when you look toward them horizontally or vertically. Distance limits let you hide waypoints or beacons beyond a certain range or below a minimum distance.

Beacons

Beacons are the in-world light columns that mark waypoint locations. You can enable or disable beacon rendering globally. Each waypoint can have its beacon beam turned off individually. Beacon settings include using a rotating outer beam, a stationary inner beam, a small icon, or a separate beacon color. Labels for beacons can have a background rectangle, bold text, and can show distance and vector deviation from your position.

Teleporting

Teleporting works through waypoints or by right-clicking the map. Server settings control who can teleport. Options include allowing everyone, only ops, waypoint-only teleporting (no map right-click), or global-only teleporting (only admin-created global waypoints). A separate option can disable arbitrary map right-click teleporting entirely.

When teleporting, you can choose to remove decimals from the destination coordinates. Some servers do not support teleporting to the center of a block, so this option sends whole numbers instead of adding .5 to each value. You can also set a custom teleport command for your server, using placeholders for player name, waypoint coordinates, target dimension, and waypoint name.

Importing and Exporting

Waypoints can be shared between worlds or players. The import/export dialog lets you select a ZIP file or folder as the source. You choose which folders to include in an import or export. Imports can replace existing waypoints, add only missing ones, or copy all and replace existing entries. The mod can also import waypoints from Rei’s MiniMap or VoxelMap, with success and error messages reported in chat.

Sharing with Other Players

You can share waypoints with other players on a server. The share action sends selected waypoints to one or more players. Recipients can accept or decline shared waypoints. You can control whether you accept shares from others and whether you see a chat notification when a share arrives. Pending shared waypoints can be reviewed before accepting.

Death and Temporary Waypoints

Death waypoints are created automatically at your death location if that option is enabled. They can be removed automatically as you approach them, with a configurable removal distance. Temporary waypoints also have an auto-remove distance. Date and time formats for death waypoint names can be customized.

Deleting Waypoints

You can delete selected waypoints or all waypoints in a group. A confirmation prompt can be enabled or disabled. When deleting a group, you can choose whether to also delete its waypoints or move them to another group. Global waypoints are skipped during group deletion and are reported as not deleted.

Server Restrictions

Server admins can restrict waypoint features. Global waypoints only mode lets players view and toggle visibility of global waypoints, but prevents creating, editing, or deleting personal waypoints. Coordinate display can be hidden entirely, which also prevents editing coordinate values in waypoints. Waypoint sharing can be disabled, and the share button removed from menus.
