Where to Find Fossils and Amber in Jurassic Reborn and Turn Them Into DNA
Fossils and amber in Jurassic Reborn are the starting point for usable DNA, and each type of deposit has its own structure and its own processing machine. This guide covers where the digsites and mines generate, how to build the
Fossil Crusher and
Fossil Cleaner, and how those two machines fit into the chain from raw material to DNA.
Fossil and Amber Structures
Three structures hold the raw materials you need. Each one uses its own biome or dimension tag to decide where it can appear, and each has its own spacing rules for placement.
- Ice Fossil Digsite — generates in the `#jurassicreborn:has_structure/ice_fossil_digsite` tag. The game makes one placement attempt per 32x32 chunk region, and separate digsites stay at least 8 chunks apart.
- Desert Digsite — generates in the `#jurassicreborn:has_structure/desert_digsite` tag. Placement is one attempt per 40x40 chunk region, with a minimum spacing of 8 chunks between them.
- Amber Mine — generates in the `#jurassicreborn:has_structure/amber_mine` tag. Like the ice digsite, it uses one attempt per 32x32 chunk region and keeps at least 8 chunks between structures.
The spacing and region numbers matter when you go looking for these structures. Because attempts are spread across large chunk regions, you can travel a long distance without finding one, and when you do find a structure, the next one will not be right next to it. The 8 chunk minimum gap applies to all three, so expect some distance between sites even in biomes where the structure is common.
The tag a structure generates in tells you what it needs. If you are searching for an Ice Fossil Digsite, you need to be in a biome or dimension that carries the ice fossil digsite tag. The same logic applies to the Desert Digsite and the Amber Mine — check that your current location matches the relevant structure tag before assuming a structure is missing.
Building the Processing Machines
Raw fossils and amber are not usable DNA on their own. Two machines handle the conversion, and both are made with shaped crafting recipes.
Fossil Crusher recipe:
- 3x
Orange Dye - 1x
Reinforced Stone - 4x
Gray Dye - 1x
Iron Blades
Arrange these in the shaped pattern to produce the
Fossil Crusher.
Fossil Cleaner recipe:
- 3x
Iron Ingot - 2x
Redstone Dust - 1x
Glass Pane - 2x
Block of Iron - 1x
Bucket
Arrange these in the shaped pattern to produce the
Fossil Cleaner.
Both recipes are shaped, so the position of each ingredient in the crafting grid matters, not just the quantities. Gather the materials before you start: orange and gray dye for the crusher, and a mix of iron, redstone, glass, and a bucket for the cleaner.
Crushing and Cleaning Into DNA
The two machines serve different stages. The
Fossil Crusher breaks down fossil material, and the
Fossil Cleaner cleans it. Together they turn the contents of the digsites and the amber mine into DNA you can actually use.
A practical order of operations:
- Locate a structure using the tag and spacing rules above. Ice and desert digsites supply fossils; the amber mine supplies amber.
- Bring the raw material back to your base rather than processing it on site.
- Build both machines with the shaped recipes listed above.
- Run fossils through the
Fossil Crusher first. - Run the crushed output through the
Fossil Cleaner to finish the process.
Keep your search expectations realistic. With one attempt per 32x32 or 40x40 chunk region and an 8 chunk minimum gap, a single structure covers a wide area, so plan longer trips rather than quick loops around spawn. Bring enough inventory space for everything a digsite or mine yields, since you will want to process it all once you are back at your machines.
