What Kaleidoscope Cookery Adds and What It Works With
Kaleidoscope Cookery is a standalone cooking mod, not an add-on that needs another mod underneath it - the only hard requirements are Minecraft and the loader. It does, however, hook into a long list of other mods when they are present, and those hooks are what people are usually asking about when they call it an addon.
What it requires on its own
On 1.21.1 it needs NeoForge 21 or newer; on 1.20.1 it runs on Forge. Nothing else is mandatory. Install it into a fresh world and every cooking station, ingredient and dish works immediately.
The stations it adds
The mod is built around physical cooking blocks rather than a single machine, and each has its own recipe list:
Wok - by far the largest set, with 189 recipes on 1.21.1, plus 27 flexible ones that accept looser ingredient combinations.
Stockpot - 64 recipes for soups and stews, with 28 flexible variants, and a separate
Stockpot Lid.
Millstone - 85 recipes covering grinding, dyes and ore processing.
Chopping Board - 16 knife recipes that split raw and cooked meat into cuts.
Teapot - 6 tea recipes.
Steamer - 4 recipes, and steamers stack on top of each other.- Rice Bowl - 5 recipes that serve an existing dish over rice.
Shawarma Spit and
Grease Crock for roasting and for oil.
On top of those there are 105 ordinary crafting recipes for the blocks, knives, furniture and containers.
Farmer's Delight
This is the integration most players mean. When Farmer's Delight is installed, its Cooking Pot recipes are read and made available on the Kaleidoscope
Stockpot, carrying over the original cook time and the original output container. You do not have to choose between the two mods' cooking systems, and you do not have to build both pots to work through a Farmer's Delight recipe list.
Create
There are two connections. Create's Milling recipes become usable in the Kaleidoscope
Millstone, including the chance-based outputs those recipes use, so a Create pack does not end up with two grinders that each know half the recipes. The mod also ships Ponder scenes, which means its blocks appear in Create's in-game tutorial system with animated walkthroughs for the Millstone, Wok, Stockpot, Steamer, Shawarma Spit and Grease Crock.
Recipe viewers and tooltips
All eight recipe categories are registered with JEI, REI and EMI, so every wok, stockpot, millstone, chopping board, teapot and steamer recipe is searchable in whichever viewer your pack ships.
Jade support is more detailed than usual. Looking at a block gives you live state: the cut count on a chopping board and how many cuts it still needs, the oil level in an oil can or enamel basin, what is currently cooking in a stockpot or wok, and the contents of a kitchenware rack or fruit basket.
Other hooks
- Tetra compatibility for its tool system.
- Right-click harvest support, so mature crops replant when you interact with them.
- KubeJS is an optional dependency, and the mod exposes recipe schemas for the wok, stockpot, steamer, millstone and chopping board. Pack authors can add or remove recipes for any of those stations from a script.
Where to start
Build the
Chopping Board first - six oak pressure plates and an
Iron Kitchen Knife made from three iron ingots and a stick. It turns ordinary vanilla meat into the cut ingredients almost every wok and stockpot recipe is built on, and it costs nothing to make. The
Millstone is the natural second build, because it pays for itself in ore processing regardless of what else is in your pack.
