Configuring Which Moons Allow or Block Sleeping in Lunar
Lunar lets you control whether players can sleep during specific moon events. Each moon type has its own sleeping toggle, so you can decide individually which ones permit a night's rest and which ones refuse it.
How Moon Sleeping Control Works
Every moon in Lunar has a matching sleeping setting. When a moon's sleeping option is enabled, sleeping behaves normally during that moon. When it is disabled, the game blocks sleep while that moon is active, and the player sees the message sleep canceled — "You cannot sleep during a !" — where the moon's name fills in the blank. This is the same style of on-screen notice used elsewhere in the mod, such as the rain message that reports bad weather cleansing its effects.
Because each moon is handled separately, you are not forced into an all-or-nothing choice. You can allow sleeping during harmless moons and forbid it during dangerous ones, or flip that arrangement to suit your preferences.
The Sleeping Toggles
The following settings each control one moon:
- bloodMoonSleeping — governs whether sleeping is allowed during a Blood Moon.
- crimsonMoonSleeping — governs whether sleeping is allowed during a Crimson Moon.
- eclipseMoonSleeping — governs whether sleeping is allowed during an Eclipse Moon.
- badOmenMoonSleeping — governs whether sleeping is allowed during a Bad Omen Moon.
- heroMoonSleeping — governs whether sleeping is allowed during a Hero Moon.
- minerMoonSleeping — governs whether sleeping is allowed during a Miner Moon.
- whiteMoonSleeping — governs whether sleeping is allowed during a White Moon.
- tinyMoonSleeping — governs whether sleeping is allowed during a Tiny Moon.
Turn a toggle on to permit sleep during that moon; turn it off to block it. The blocked state is what produces the sleep canceled notice.
Related Moon Settings
Several other settings shape how moons appear and behave, and they are worth knowing when you plan your sleeping rules:
- lunarEventChance — sets how often a Lunar event occurs.
- crimsonMoonWeight — sets the weighting for the Crimson Moon.
- badOmenMoonWeight — sets the weighting for the Bad Omen Moon.
- eclipseMoonWeight — sets the weighting for the Eclipse Moon.
- crimsonReplacements — controls Crimson Replacements.
Weight settings influence how likely a given moon is to be selected, while lunarEventChance affects the overall frequency of events. Adjusting these changes which moons players encounter, which in turn affects how often your sleeping rules come into play.
Operating the Settings
All of these options are handled through the mod's interface rather than through crafting or in-game items. Open the interface and locate the moon sleeping entries listed above, then set each one to the state you want. The action is simply toggling the setting; there is no key combination required for the toggles themselves. If a particular control is bound to a hotkey, use the corresponding hotkey (set it in the controls menu) rather than assuming a default.
Practical Notes
If you want sleeping to stay possible no matter which moon rises, enable every sleeping toggle. If you want certain moons to force players to stay awake, disable those specific toggles and leave the rest enabled. The sleep canceled message confirms that a disabled moon is doing its job.
You may also see sync-related notices such as Failed to sync movement event or Failed to sync event. These are separate from the sleeping settings and do not change how the moon sleeping toggles behave.
Plan your moon weights and event chance alongside the sleeping toggles so that the moons you block are the ones that actually appear in your game.
