Balconies, Platforms & Railing Safety
Macaw's Stairs provides modular balconies, platforms, and railings to secure elevated drops and frame multi-tier architectural facades. Combining these elements allows builders to construct exterior walkways, watchtower parapets, and mezzanine floors that connect seamlessly with the mod's specialized stair profiles.
Structural Platforms for Decks and Bridges
Platforms serve as horizontal foundation blocks with integrated side supports. They function as intermediate landings between stair runs, suspension bridge walkways, or open dock piers over water.
Platform crafting requires two wooden slabs and two wooden logs:
- Place two Slabs in the top row across the center and right columns.
- Place two Logs in the middle row directly beneath the slabs in the center and right columns.
- This arrangement yields twelve Platform blocks.
Platforms can also be carved using masonry materials in a stonecutter. Inserting a single stone block produces three Platform blocks in modern editions, or one Platform in earlier editions. Supported stone types include Andesite, Blackstone, Brick, Cobbled Deepslate, Cobblestone, Deepslate Brick, Diorite, Granite, Mossy Cobblestone, Mossy Stone Brick, Mud Brick, Nether Brick, Prismarine, Quartz, Red Nether Brick, Red Sandstone, Sandstone, and Stone Brick.
Projecting Balconies for Facades
Balconies extend outward from exterior walls without requiring ground support pillars. They create functional viewing terraces outside second-story bedrooms, defensive vantage points above castle gates, and decorative window boxes.
Crafting wooden balconies requires six Sticks and two Fences:
- Place sticks across the upper and lower rows of the crafting grid.
- Place one Fence in the middle-left slot and one Fence in the middle-right slot, leaving the center slot empty.
- This recipe consumes six Sticks and two Fences to produce six Balcony blocks.
In stonecutter processing, a single stone block converts directly into two Balcony blocks in modern editions, or one Balcony in legacy releases.
Railings and Edge Enclosures
Railings establish safety barriers along exposed ledges, stairwells, and bridge spans to prevent players and livestock from tumbling over heights. They feature open grates or balusters that preserve clear line of sight while maintaining full boundary collision.
Wooden railings are derived directly from crafted balconies:
- Arrange six Balcony blocks in a traditional stair shape across the crafting grid, placing one in the top left, two in the middle row, and three in the bottom row.
- This crafting recipe yields six Railing blocks.
- Crafting with Oak Balcony blocks yields Oak Stair Railing, while other timber types yield their respective Railing blocks.
Stonecutter processing allows direct fabrication:
- One stone block converts into two Railing blocks in modern editions, or one Railing in legacy versions.
Railings connect smoothly with adjacent walls, posts, and balcony edges. By placing railings along platform borders, builders establish protected perimeters that safeguard players traversing high mountain paths or rooftop terraces.
