Malum Building Blocks: 148 Stonecutting Recipes
Malum is remembered as a magic mod, but it ships more blocks than items. This guide covers the building side and how to reach it quickly.
Blocks outnumber items
310 blocks against 255 items across 565 pages. That is unusual for a mod centred on spirits and infusion, and it means a substantial part of Malum is a building palette rather than a progression system.
Stonecutting is the fastest route
148 stonecutting recipes, identical on both builds. That is the mod's second-largest category after crafting and the only large one that does not change between versions.
For anyone building with Malum's stone, that stability matters: a palette assembled on 1.20.1 reproduces exactly on 1.21.1, while most of the mod's magic systems were renamed or resized between the two.
Keep a stonecutter on site. Converting between variants directly is far cheaper than re-crafting each one.
Crafting carries the rest
328 recipes on 1.21.1, 304 on 1.20.1. Between crafting and stonecutting the mod has roughly 476 recipes that need no spirits at all — more than the 144 spirit infusion recipes that define its magic.
Put differently: most of Malum can be built by a player who never engages with its spirit systems.
Processing that feeds building
- Melting — 12 recipes on both builds
- Crushing — 17 on 1.21.1, 11 on 1.20.1
- Smelting — 25 and 26, Blasting — 13 and 14
- Splashing — 6 on both
These are the ordinary material routes. Note that smelting and blasting are marginally larger on 1.20.1, which makes them two of the very few categories where the older build wins.
One structure
Malum generates only the Weeping Well, underground at a spacing of 24 with a separation of 18. Nothing about the building palette is gated behind it.
Where this sits against the magic
For reference, the spirit side runs to 144 Spirit Infusion recipes on 1.21.1, 36 Soul Binding, 24 Runeworking and 21 Spirit Focusing. The building side is comparable in size and entirely independent of it.
Versions
1.8.2 (1.21.1) and 1.6.7 (1.20.1).
