How to Open and Use the Moderner Beta World Customization Screen
Moderner Beta provides a dedicated World Customization screen where you configure terrain generation before creating a world. This guide covers opening that screen, moving around its interface, and reading its basic layout.
Opening the Screen
The screen is titled Moderner Beta World Customization. You reach it through the mod's own interface rather than through any crafting recipe. Once open, it presents the full set of generation controls in one place.
Basic Layout
The screen is organized into several sections, each with its own heading:
- Moderner Beta World Presets — a browsable list of ready-made generation setups.
- Moderner Beta Chunk Customization — controls for chunk-level terrain shape.
- Moderner Beta Biome Customization — controls for biome placement and behavior.
- Moderner Beta Cave Biome Customization — controls for cave biome generation.
- Moderner Beta Configuration — the broader configuration area.
A title label marks the screen itself, and a Preset Description: field shows explanatory text for whichever preset is highlighted.
Choosing a Preset
The presets section lists many named options. Each entry carries a short description of what kind of world it produces. Examples include Beta 1.7.3, Alpha v1.1.2_01, Skylands, several Infdev and Classic builds, Indev themes, Pocket Edition generation, and various Release versions. There are also themed and customized entries such as Beta Water World, Beta Isles, Beta Cave Delight, Beta Mountain Madness, Beta Drought, Beta Cave Chaos, Beta Survival Island, and Snow ain't Snowier. Variants exist for large biomes and amplified terrain, plus grouped families like Early Release, Major Release, Finite, Alpha Infdev, Beta Custom, and Release Custom.
A search or filter narrows the list; when nothing matches, the screen shows No matching presets. Selecting a preset fills in the description field so you can read what it does before committing.
Editing Settings as JSON
Advanced users can edit the raw settings. A text box accepts pasted JSON, labeled with the hint Copy and paste JSON code into this text box. The screen notes that settings can be copied out and pasted into a text editor for easier work. Use the navigation keys to move the text cursor while editing.
Two error states can appear here:
- Invalid JSON — the settings text is not valid JSON.
- Invalid settings — the new settings could not be read, so the previous settings are restored.
Some individual options are marked Too advanced! Edit using JSON., meaning they cannot be changed through the normal controls and must be edited in the JSON text.
Import, Export, and Saving
The Import/Export area handles moving settings in and out. Save As opens a selector for choosing where to export to. Saved Presets holds your stored default presets, and a Default Settings Preset entry restores the baseline configuration. A confirmation prompt reading Reset world settings to default? appears before settings are cleared.
Hotkeys
Any action that has a bound key uses the corresponding hotkey, which you set in the controls menu. No default key bindings are assumed here.
Practical Notes
- Pick a preset first, then adjust individual sections only if needed.
- Read the Preset Description: text before generating.
- If a JSON edit fails, the previous settings return automatically, so you can correct the text and try again.
- Options flagged as too advanced require direct JSON editing rather than the on-screen controls.
